Windsong Station
Windsong Station (Lovt Engusong in Iuxat) is a research and border control skystation which lies in the inflection layer above Baker's Flats in Rostral G and the vast savanna plains of Dorsal B cube.
Demographics
The permanent population of Windsong Station is Rostran and majority male as a consequence of the demographics that make up its maintaining professions, though several ovinex 'ovrelin' also call the station home. These staffers, including a small RACMF garrison, government officials, and the staff of the local Navigator's Guild office, occupy the whole of the "clockwise" habitation ring. A more diverse, semi-permanent population of researchers, representatives of trading concerns, and tourism officials inhabits the "counterclockwise" ring. Like Mistglare Station, the iconography of Rostran Esotericism, the predominant religion of the station's crew, can be found throughout Windsong Station; each ring is encircled with a protective ritual sigil dedicated to Vexan Zin, the father of lighter-than-air travel in the The Rostran Arc.
Defences
Windsong Station is a waystation for both RACMF airship flotillas and mercenary crews alike, all of which help to dissuade direct confrontation with the Avarix Corps raiders who sometimes also visit the region. The 'clockwise' habitation ring features a set of three evenly-dispersed anti-air turrets, giving station defenders nearly ubiquitous coverage.
Industry & Trade
Via Windsong Station, the Rostran Archipelago Confederacy maintains trade with Petalcap Vale via bidirectional airship routes to Chathorn Station and the Manifold Conservation Society via ground facilities in Dorsal G. Trade goods from Sprucehaven Exports are more common than those from MartMart International, the verdials being more trusted than humans in some circles due to the shared history between the RAC and Vale via the exploits of famed explorer Eqai Voiranoi.
Infrastructure
Windsong Station provides provisioning and refueling services for dieseltech airships traveling between the Dorsal and Rostral tesseracts. Fuel biosynthesis reactors at one end of the station produce fuel reserves to complement imported fuel sources, and a compressor at the other end condenses lifting gasses from the inflection layer to help top off airship envelopes. The station is not fully self-sufficient, however, and relies on a combination of RAC resupply runs and tariffs to remain solvent in terms of material necessities. Skysweeping services are provided by a set of four skymoths - though, as the adjoining cube layers are sparsely-populated and far from the front lines of ongoing conflicts like the War of Reunification, the pilots of these skymoths spend more time giving rides to sightseers than actually carrying out janitorial work.
Tourism
Lying along a relatively safe commerce lane - the Guild Hazard Index is low, but not trivial - Windsong Station is often billed as 'your gateway to the islands' to tourists heading to popular destinations like Eudoxia and Exivaun. Local features like Baker's Flats are presented as photo opportunities.
For academics, the station itself may be considered a destination, as it represents a good staging area for expeditions to locations in the Dorsal Tesseract which are of geological, ecological, or archaeological significance. A small research library in the guest ring contains unique resources pertaining to findings at the Glass-Block Fortress, a mysterious structure found in Dorsal C. Expeditions to The Everswamp are often supported by supply lines leading back to Windsong Station, as the routes to the region from the Western Tesseract end are either difficult or non-existent depending on how much risk the expedition leaders are willing to take.
Geography
The skylines around Windsong Station are percieved as 'alien' by many visitors because of the relative dearth of prominence and apparent sharpness of the cube layer edges and vertices. The Dorsal Tesseract is defined by low geological activity; erosion via circumvection forces, rather than tectonics, defines the region's features, making for broad and shallow water features with only the occasional canyon or hillock to break up the flatness. Those with a family history of edgesight or folded hands syndrome are generally encouraged to remain away from windows for the duration of their visit to Windsong station, as the paucity of terrain features makes the region seem alien and, thus, may be conducive to the formation of existential paranoia.
Climate
Through its association with the Rostral Tesseract, the airspace controlled by Windsong Station is warm relative to other regions of the Manifold Sky.
Natural Resources
Open, flat spaces are the major selling point of regions adjacent to Windsong Station. Vehicle manufacturers sometimes visit the station to oversee proving exercises for new products. The unusually flat vistas (see Geography) make the region popular with photographers and artists with a particular affinity to these spaces.
