Selenite Fox

I never have hunted those foxes in my whole life, and I never will.   Not for any superstition about spells or curses, though I believe that those supersition are true, but for the look in their eyes. When I was a child, here on Poseidon, a wandering trader floated his way to my village to try and turn a profit. His boat was powered by some sort of jury-rigged Gold Age powercell, and his only companion was one singular Selenite fox.   I thought it was dog of some kind, honestly, akin to the furred hounds we kept around, though honestly ours are so much larger I'm not sure it was a logical connection to make. He paid it no mind as he made his sales pitch to potential customers, and it seemed content to hope around the boxes and crates of the docks, sniffing at cargo and people alike. I watched it for a time before I noticed its pair of tails, flowing languidly in the sea-breeze and twining and untwining with each other slowly. That's when the merchant noticed my curiosity.   He called to me, and implored me to come over. When I stood in front of him, he called to the fox and it padded over. It sat between me and the man, and looked at me. Not expectently, like a dog might draw an association between the food it's master gave it, but like my grandmother when I did not make introductions fast enough.   There was a human element to it's eyes that I had never seen in an animals eyes before, and have not since. It seemed to converse with me and the merchant, the way it inclined it's head, set it's ears, and flicked it's tails. It couldn't speak, no, but you filled in the blanks yourself, and it simply made another movement if it felt your interpretation was wrong. Something it rarely had to do, as the message it was getting across seemed so natural.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Has the same form as a terrestrial fox, but much larger as the life on Selene tends to be, and with two tails instead of one.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

While the species clearly has the normal senses of a fox, defined hearing and smell being the foremost, it is also clear upon observation that they have other senses not commonly found amongst their kin. These other senses have given the species a sort of mystic reputation, as whatever it is that they see lends to them 'seeing ghosts' as well as being able to functionally communicate with sentient species.
There's a popular myth about Selenite foxes that states that there are members of this species that have more than the standard two tails. It's considered good luck to catch a sight of these supposed three plus tailed foxes, the good omen they represent going up exponentially the amount of tails that they have.   To follow this myth to the end, the most powerful of these foxes have nine tails. Though when they reach this count, there's some myths that the foxes gain the ability to take human form, though this is considered simply superstition even if not out of the realm of possibility in this day and age.
