Fey

Type: Arcane   Fey are “naturally” evolved magical creatures. Most true fey were driven out of Mundus centuries ago, and are now mainly found in Arcadia. The Arcadian races of elves, gnomes, goblins, and trolls are all considered minor varieties of fey.
  • Abilities: Most fey either have overt magical powers, or are magical in nature. Some have innate spellcasting abilities, others have signature supernatural powers, and some simply have physical features that could not have come about without magical intervention. Due to the near-infinite possibilities of both magical abilities and physical forms fey can have, there’s very little limit on what their powers might be.
  • Origin: Fey are creatures whose evolution was strongly influenced by magical forces. This is one of the main reasons most fey are found in Arcadia, as that realm is defined by its strong magical currents. They are distinguished from chimeras, which are created or altered directly by magic, rather than evolving, and also from cryptids, which are exotic nonmagical creatures.
  • Varieties: There are a multitude of fey species, going well beyond the namesake image of butterfly-winged pixies. In truth, they’re not one species at all, but an entire category. Elves, gnomes, goblins, and trolls are considered lesser fey, and some subspecies do have more advanced magical powers. The most notable examples of this are giants; the largest subspecies of trolls, which now almost only exist in Arcadia. Giants are an example of fey creatures who, while magical in nature, don’t exhibit much in the way of magical powers.
  • Personality: Fey view the world differently from mortals. After all, fey are immortal — sort of. Magic, and the things connected to it, are cyclical, so when a fey creature dies they will eventually be reborn to play their part in the story again. So, to fey, the temporal concerns of mortals matter little. Because of this they can often come off as uncaring - like they’re just playing a game that, to everyone except them, is a matter of life and death.
  • Visibility: Secret. Fey were driven into hiding centuries ago, and most people believe them to be nothing but a myth.
