Beastmen

The second most populous species on Earth, beastmen make up about a third of the population, with similar proportions in Arcadia. They resemble anthropomorphic animals of a wide variety of species. The most common species are mammals, followed by other types of vertebrates, with invertebrates being the rarest.   Beastmen are the legacy of the Primal sphere influencing humankind in the distant past. Modern science incorrectly believes they’re an ancient type of low-tier mutant.   The degree of animal morphology in beastmen varies substantially. Most have human-like bodies with animal heads and fur, scales, or feathers as appropriate, and most often tails as well. However, some look almost completely human except for a few altered features, and others have much more animal morphology, including features such as digitigrade legs. Exotic hybrids such as centaurs and merfolk are also considered to be beastmen, though these are mostly found in Arcadia.   Beastmen may have simple animal abilities appropriate for their species. For instance, a wolf beastman might have enhanced scent, or a bear beastman might be exceptionally strong. Many have claws, fangs, or horns. These abilities must be appropriate for the species and on par with what the actual animal is capable of. If you wish to delve deeper into superpowered animal abilities, consider playing a Cryptid. Also, see Dragonkin if you’re interested in playing an anthropomorphic dragon.
  • Local Species: Beastmen tend to have forms like those of animals native to the region they come from. In Costa Grande, that means the majority of beastmen resemble animal species native to the American southwest. These beastmen are descended from the aboriginal beastman tribal groups in the area, though they have largely been culturally assimilated.
  • Foreign Species: Beastmen of species not native to the Americas are also quite common in Costa Grande. They arrived in the country alongside human immigrants, and culturally tend to be like any other American of immigrant descent.
  • Arcadian Beastmen: Beastmen who live in Arcadia have been less influenced by foreign cultures, and tend to live in the old ways; in tribes, with cultures similar to those of the native humans in the area. While this type makes up the majority of beastmen in the local parts of Arcadia, they are extremely rare in Costa Grande itself.
