The World Spire can be seen, given the right conditions, from most places in the northern hemisphere. It reaches out beyond the atmosphere and its base spans an area of a continent. At the point of the summit the moon known as "The Eye of the World" is in geosynchronous orbit with the spire.

Its origins are a subject of endless debate among scholars and priests. Some claim that it was the work of the gods themselves, a divine creation meant to connect the mortal realm with the heavens. The nearest traversable land to the base of the World Spire is Ursandur The region is native to the people and is commonly referred to as "Ice Bears". The Ursan defend their borders with an absolute policy of attack on the sight of any outsider. It is believed that the Ursan have a singular capital city within the basest depths of The World Spire.
