Isanti
Along the eastern edge of Fulgaria, stretching south across the border of the Seranean Peninsula, the glass-glazed ruins of cities from hundreds of years ago are now host to the Isanti of the Fulgarian Confederacy. In recent history they were known as raiders- dragons and other reptiles known for their sudden assaults on unsuspecting travelers, uncompromising profiteering, and rapid escape- leaving their victims disoriented and ill-equipped for the harsh landscape in which they were left to survive.
Today, the Isanti are functional members of the Confederacy. An Isanti official sits on the Fulgarian Assembly, their territory is clearly defined and respected by their neighbors, and their talent for rapid, debilitating attacks on unsuspecting targets is being put to good use in the effort to keep Trusik forces from pushing too far south.
...that being said, the Isanti are still very much in the profiteering business, targeting unsuspecting non-Fulgarian travelers and relieving the resources of anyone foolish enough to travel too far off the main road to Prominence. The Confederacy discourages but still tolerates this behavior, and the nature of the Confederacy incentivizes their allies to turn a blind eye to their aggressive treatment of outsiders.
The typical Isanti is a heavily-augmented reptile, dragon, some types of avian, or a select few mammals with alterations to survive the unforgiving environment. The machinery, weapons and tools of an Isanti ranger are part of the individual and treated as an aspect of their identity. The lifelong pursuit of mastery over their chosen loadout is a tradition deeply rooted in Isanti culture- different tools, weapons and styles of fighting are explored while young and, as a rite of passage into adulthood, a dedication to their selection is solidified and training begins in earnest. An elder tribal member takes on two or three pupils who follow them on raids and scouting operations until they are deemed ready to form their own squad, of whom they continue to travel and fight with for the rest of their lives.
Of all the groups in Lyx, it could easily be said that the Isanti are the most accepting of the Excommunicated; the tribe has seen a drastic increase of ex-Solace initiates, who they welcome as valuable allies and are understood to be uniquely capable of surviving (and thriving) in the otherwise deadly environment in which the Isanti make their encampments. It is not unusual to find at least one Detached among a squad of Isanti scouts or warriors, and many have found this new camaraderie to be an encouraging substitute for the deeply-missed comfort of the Choir. Ex-Proselytes, Partizans, and at least one known Ascendant are among their number; with great effort they have acquired a single Proselytization Engine, and have begun to repurpose it for their own needs.
Isanti are readily identified on sight; their bodily augmentations trend toward functionality and specific application, and include things like grappling hooks, anti-grav devices, thermal vision visors, jump jets embedded in armor and, without exception, heavily-modified and intricately-decorated weapons, unique to their owners.
