Harinae Villages

Architecture

The Harinae villages are crafted with the expectation that they will be broken down or moved within a number of weeks. Small single huts are constructed from simple wooden poles and draped over with heavy tapestries that keep out the sun.
Families with growing children will take a different route, weaving elaborate nests from grasses, sticks and reeds, with the help of the rest of the tribe and tireless summoned spirits. The weave allows ample airflow, even artificially making a slight breeze, while also shielding from the worst of the overbearing sunlight.
Making these homes is seen as a bonding activity for the whole tribe, allowing for the smallest personal investment in the growth and well being of the tribe’s young.
Because of the flammable nature of these homes, fires are only permitted at a safe distance from the village, where all the cooking, boiling water, and crafting that requires it is done. At night, a perimeter of torches is set, but a village’s primary defense are the celestial spirits that are summoned to fight off the hordes of darkness.
These homes are decorated with pottery, beads, and hanging cloth or furs. Hollow bone chimes are peppered all over the village, strung between homes, making a low musical tune on breezy days. More importantly, these audible decorations serve as an early warning if a demon managed to get too close to the village.

Geography

Whenever possible, the tribes tries to settle down in the shade of trees, or surrounded by natural defenses like thorn bushes; but barring that, they can settle in any terrain found in the desert or savanna. Their greatest concern is water, which is rare outside the central chasms, and jealously guarded by the wardstone cities. It is not uncommon to see the tribes planting water conserving plants in their wake, with the hope that when they return in a few months, they will provide a source of moisture for the tribe.
