Fädryg (vædrig)
Write about a service animal in your world: what do they help with? How difficult are they to train?
Fädrygs are large, strong creatures native to the lands occupied by the Gåva Tribes. In the wild, these are the most dangerous beasts in Gåva territory, and some of the most dangerous beasts in New Gestus.
The Gåva Tribes have domesticated some of these creatures to act as mounts, to carry heavy items, and to defend settlements.
Adult fädrygs are very difficult to tame and train. However, infant and adolescent fädrygs are a lot easier to train. To avoid the struggles of capturing new fädrygs, people farm these creatures so they can be trained from birth. Farming fädrygs is a dangerous task so some of the leaders of the tribes donate resources to help train farmers.
Fädrygs have a thick, rock-like exterior shell to protect themselves. Fädrygs evolved from an even larger creature called a stordryg, which is now extinct.
