On Art for Luridity
Neither stock art nor AI generations capture every tiny, sneaky detail a human artist can, and neither put food on a person's table. I love working with commissioned artists and frequently hire them for custom pieces. However, my dream of blanketing the entirety of Luridity in glorious custom art--particularly, funding it--is very much a work in progress. To add flavor and depth, I use a mix of tools: Canva for mashups, collaging, and finalization. HeroForge and Portrait Workshop for character bases. DungeonFog for maps. While Luridity was in non-commercial mode, these were fine, but as Luridity transitions into a commercial project with the release of ebooks and other products, I'm reviewing and updating all visual assets to ensure full compliance with licensing terms (for instance, Ikonthology's extended commercial license for some genre-specific icons!). This may involve reworking some previously published articles or replacing existing images. Please excuse the dust during this transition!
Stock and Licensed Art:
I source elements from public domain art, appropriately licensed CC-BY or CC0 stock images from trusted sites like Pexels and Unsplash, & some purchased stock art (with a focus on artist-rendered content) when I'm putting together collages and kitbashes in Canva. Whenever possible, I reference the creators in the image details so others can discover their portfolios.
AI-Generated Content Policy:
In the past, I’ve used tools like MidJourney to generate visual additions to the images used on non-commercial Luridity. As part of the transition to a commercial project, these AI-generated elements are being replaced with standardized art styles and branded design elements. Where AI-generated elements temporarily remain (i.e. in collages or as mockups for commissioned work), they are clearly noted in the image details. Only images that are not generated with AI and have appropriate commercial licensing are used in my published novels, subscriber content, and merch.
