The Maiden
She was discovered in a tent on an island in the middle of a small pond in the Kapkan' Marshes. She subsequently charmed the whole party, and told them to return to a hedge they had passed earlier in the day, because there, they would discover which one is her intended. The party did so, and found that the intended is probably their guide, Velko, who was apparently fated to bear witness to the Rada. Velko was somehow changed by being present at the burial site that lay beyond the hedge, perhaps taking on the characteristics of the god Rod.
She then led the party to the Rada, where she announced to the assembled Nechist' that the old rule requiring them to sleep through the winter is suspended - they are now to go forth to reclaim the land that is rightfully theirs. Immediately after, a man with a sword flew in, and carried her away. Vasilii Strannik thinks that the lady is Lelia - the Maiden aspect of his goddess, Mokosh, and the man is some sort of southern sorcerer she has reputedly taken up with. Whatever the case, she never stated her name, but judging by her appearance, she does have exalted status.
