Hagmer

Qinnorin

From the moment Hagmer Qinnorin was born in the hidden woodland town of Emelle, something about him felt… wrong. The firstborn of King Ascal Qinnorin and Queen Aravae Yelleth, rulers of Emelle in the heart of the Paeri Woods, Hagmer was raised under the canopy of ancient trees and centuries-old traditions. He was a shadow to his father—watching, mimicking, absorbing every move. Ascal admired his son’s devotion. Others saw something else.   Queen Aravae, cautious by nature and wise beyond her years, was the first to voice concern. There was something unnatural in Hagmer’s gaze, in the way he listened but never spoke. Jaina Qinnorin, his younger sister, felt it too. From childhood, the two clashed, never playful, never innocent. Their relationship was poisoned from the start.   The growing rift between the siblings tore at their family. Ascal took Hagmer under his wing, while Aravae became fiercely protective of Jaina. Their once-united bond fractured under the weight of favoritism and suspicion. Eventually, Aravae attempted to leave Emelle with her daughter—but Ascal, with Hagmer at his side, refused to let them go. From that day forward, they were watched.   Ascal raised Hagmer as his heir, teaching him everything about their sacred woodland domain. But whatever lessons were shared in daylight, Hagmer’s private ambitions were darker. Under his father’s growing greed, Hagmer thrived. Yet while Ascal still held to some semblance of restraint, Hagmer did not. His hunger for power knew no limit—and in time, even Ascal began to change in his presence.   Then came the day of fire and loss.   During a devastating dragon attack, the family fled together—until the flames claimed Aravae. Jaina was shattered. Hagmer, however, stood emotionless, unshaken. And in time, the truth emerged: the dragon hadn’t come unprovoked; Hagmer had stolen its treasure.   Jaina learned this only after fleeing Emelle with her father and brother. The dragon had razed their home in vengeance, but Hagmer had shown no regret. He’d calculated the risk. He had invited the fire. When Jaina confronted him, he responded only in riddles and veiled threats. It terrified her. But she had no choice—she was alone with him and her grieving father.   Why Hagmer stole the treasure remained unclear. The wood elves of Paeri had no love for gold or jewels. But it seemed that Hagmer was obsessed with dragons—creatures of ancient power who hoarded treasure beyond imagining. He had gone to one’s lair, taken from it, and never cared about the cost.   Years later, after Emelle was rebuilt, the stolen hoard vanished again. This time, within the town's borders. The citizens were gathered in the square as King Ascal, for the first time in memory, lost control. Enraged, he vowed to hang the thief. Hagmer stood beside him, smiling faintly. Only Jaina noticed it. It was subtle, calculated. A grin he wore just for her.   And later that day, the guards took her to their father.   Jaina was accused. No one could prove otherwise. Ascal, ashamed and betrayed, spared her life—but not her place. She was exiled from Emelle. As she was cast out, Hagmer stood at his father’s side again, that same grin on his face—this time locking eyes with her, triumphant.   It was his revenge.   His purge. His final strike.   Jaina has not seen her brother since that day. But she knows, deep in her heart, that whatever darkness had once lingered behind Hagmer’s eyes has now taken hold completely.
