Sea Crown War, The First
In the remains of the ogres precinct of Mynosas after the Cataclysm, several human powers rose, dominated by the cultures of the fertile northern shore of the Serpent's Sea (now known as King's Bay). In time the small nations surrounding the sea forged conflicting alliances which culminated in the first Sea Crown War by unifying them all under one high king on the throne of Scepterstone, eventually known as the Empire of Aupstelus. The leaders of the subject nations that survived the warring process became the Dukes of Aupstelus.
The triggering event for the Sea Crown War was a battle for succession in Eredon, a small kingdom on the south shore of the Mageion Sea, resulting from the possibly accidental death of its king. When the dead king's eldest surviving natural child was displaced as heir, the king's sister took the crown. She was backed by the court of Hastauret, ever a rival to the throne on Scepterstone and family of her consort, and her usurpation provided the pretext for seizing of the Pecararo Headlands by forces loyal to King Sceptaros and his allies in Agryos.
After years of battle and negotiation the throne of Scepterstone had subjugated or taken allies oaths from all but the Quasrani of Hastauret and the loosely allied Marcannai of Echtarfal. After the Doge of Conboll delivered word of Echtarfal's acceptance of rule from Seastack, a terse capitulation followed shortly from Kesafit. With the whole of the region under one banner, the recalcitrant magelords of Hastauret could not hold out forever.
In the ages since the fall of the first Sea Crown, the component nations have retained the ceremonial titles of Duke of Aupstelus, keeping alive the possibility of raising the Sea Crown again. Seeking their vengeance against Scepterstone, the throne of the Hastaurian magelords came to rule the region themselves more than once.
