Kolkos Nektaros
Kolkos Nektaros, the Valley of Nectar, connects the human nations of King's Bay with the ogre prefectures of the Falorques River and Serpentis Sea to the south. Its northern canyon is carved by the effervescent waters of the Demochein River completing separation of the Dragon Storm Plateau in the east and the Talaman Mountains in the west.
Also home to a heavily traveled overland trade route, the diversity of settlements experienced in the Valley of Nectar is often described as if you were traveling through every neighborhood of Aureplagia by navigating its most poorly maintained street for 300 miles. Numerous small fiefs pledged to the throne in Agorakon maintain small fortifications for its defense and levy tolls to maintain the route against the ogres to the south and unusual beasts that may stray down from the mountains.
Blessed and cursed by the dragon storm, Kolkos Nektaros serves as one of the major outlets for the mysterious infliction on the highlands. Not limited to periodic floods from the colorful stom clouds which can happen any time of the year, the canyon is also treated to billowing clouds of dust, ash and pollen that may roll down from above with the shifting turbulent winds that screech and moan as they pour over it.
Beyond the coin from merchants making the long journey north and south, Kolkos Nektros also generates a significant portion of its trade by collecting the rare magical ores that wash down from the plateau with the storm waters, collecting herbs and woods that will grow in no less treacherous terrain, and harvesting the creatures that seem to feed upon the energies that seep up out of the trembling earth. These exotic materials are the wares most sought by some merchants traveling the valley, and keep many of the residents staying on for just another season or two in hopes of hitting it rich with a vial of metal flakes, the pelt of a celestial squirrel, or a crop of barley watered with hellfire under the full Moons to sell to an enchanter or alchemist, and fulfill the dreams of retiring in luxury on the shore of the sea.
