Poincarism-Garcinism

Poincarism-Garcinism is the name given to the combined theories of Poincarism and Garcinism, named after Louis Poincaré and Jacques Garcin. While the two beliefs are separate in their conclusions, they both spent considerable time developing from one-another, and largely adhere to socialist economic theory. While both Poincarism and Garcinism are today separate ideologies, during the Lordanian Revolution, Poincarism-Garcinism was the official ideology of The Brotherhood, the interplanetary resistance of which Garcin and Poincaré were leaders, and unified in their anti-fascist and anti-authoritatrian beliefs.   Poincaré had spent much of his young adult life on Cinu, witnessing first hand the devastation of the Cinu Unification Wars, which influenced his beliefs. Garcin on the other hand, spent his adult life in the First Lordanian Republic, representing the United Nouveaulyon Socialist Republics. He witnessed the complete and utter failure of the Republic to respond to any situation, and the unopposed greed of men. Despite warning of the rise of the Unitarian Party, he was unable to prevent the People's Republic of Lordania from forming, sending him and many of his left-leaning allies into hiding. It was here that the two men's ideas combined into their modern philosophies, and the two are often referred to as Poincarism-Garcinism collectively.   Their beliefs first began to divide in the final years of the Revolution. While the Brotherhood's primary goal had been the establishment of Government-In-Exiles and the ability to transition into a new state to govern the Lordanian Cluster following the PRL's eventual collapse, neither Garcin nor Poincaré could agree on the political intentions of the state. Neither wished to see a return to a capitalist oiligarchy masquerading as a democracy, but where Poincaré wanted a strong unitary state led by the people, Garcin wished to see a state that would serve as a transitionary period to a stateless society. This rift would manifest further when Poincaré published his manifest, "Paladin d'Égalité" in 2279, followed by Garcin's response, "Principe Démocratique de l'ère Moderne", commonly called the Democratic Principles, in 2280. By Garcin's death in 2283, the rift had divided further. The Brotherhood had suffered internal conflicts, and was not in a state to unify the Cluster. Under Wil Griffith, the Brotherhood's political arm was reformed into the Democratic League, adopting Garcin's 'Principe Démocratique' as official state ideology. Poincaré would release his final work, titled 'Le Manifeste de Poincaré' shortly before his disappearance in 2286.   Garcinism has remained the official state policy of the Confederate Systems of Lordania since its founding in 2288, but only the Visser State has become a post-transitionary Garcinist Anarchy. Due to the Cluster being divided between the Confederate Systems and the Second Republic, many in the Confederate do not believe the transition can be achieved due to the frosty relationship with the Second Lordanian Republic and the United Systems of Sol. Poincarism on the other hand has found strong following within Sol, as Poincaré wrote extensively on the harmful actions of megacorporations and 'Capital Authoritarianism'. Ivy Arnott, the leader of the Confederate Systems of Lordania, has often been called a Poincarist-Garcinist due to her apparent eagerness to reshape the Confederate political establishment.

Poincarism

Poincarism is a method of political analysis built on the political framework of 23rd century socialist theory, to understand authoritarian capitalism and social conflict as well as a means of transforming society into one safeguarding against tyranny. It originates from the works of 23rd century philosophers and freedom fighters, Louis Poincaré and Jacques Garcin. Poincarism has become a seperate entity to its counter, Garcinism, with the two political theories often competing on their restructuring of 24th century politics.   Poincarism holds that unjust authority can, and will, continue to plague mankind until a radical transformation is undertaken. This transformation cannot be limited to one individual planet, but must be brought to every planet in human space, so that they may unite as a truly post-scarce heavenly utopia. Theorised at a time of great political uncertainty, much of Poincarist theory is dedicated to the fight against Capital Authoritarianism, the idea that corporations and politics are so entwined, that any fight against corporations will also be a fight against governments, and that by the 23rd Century, many planetary states within the greater human expanse are effectively puppets for the greater corporate will.   Poincarism shares a large portion of its economic and cultural theories with Garcinism. This is due to Poincaré and Garcin's closeness during the days of The Brotherhood, where their political theories were formed. However, the two strongly disagreed on their approach to handling the greater issues of tyranny and unjust government. While Garcin believed in moderation, reconciliation, and decentralisation, Poincaré believed in the duty of the people and the state to be the "Paladin d'Égalité", the Paladin of Equality. The Paladin of Equality is a political concept in which the people, and thus the state, are eternally vigilant for tyranny, that political indifference and indignation is as great an evil as intentional tyranny, and that no political safeguard is enough. The Paladin of Equality will always be the best first and last line of defence.   The rift between Poincarism and Garcinism developed in the final years of the Lordanian Revolution. Garcin, and the other members of the Democratic League, believed no unitary state should exist in the cluster, and that planets had a right to self-determinism. Poincaré on the other hand, believed that human unification would be the most important task of the 24th, and 25th centuries.   As such, Poincarists hold that a unified state, one that cares for the rights of all sapient beings both inside and out, but one that is active in defence and offense. Poincaré ultimately envisioned a unified federation, one that has dismantled capitalism, and works for the sakes of benefitting everyone, and not a rich few.   Poincarism has a sizable following in the United Systems of Sol, where many of his books and theories were circulated. Many people, of varying political views, have found themselves agreeing with some of his views. As such, Poincarism has many different branches and schools of thought. More recently, it has seen a revival in the Confederate Systems of Lordania, which has typically been led by Garcinist policies. Many people within the CSL, including its leader Ivy Arnott, have been seen flirting with Poincarist concepts.   In the years following his disappearance, many new theorists have expanded on Poincarism, attracting a strong cult following to his views. His views have found following in both sides of the cluster, as well as the greater human space. Though many who preach his views in Sol often twist or downplay his harsh criticisms of corporate capitalism that he saw as "the second worst political philosophy, behind apoliticalism."

Garcinism

Garcinism is a sociopolitical theory developed by Jacques Garcin and laid down in his manifesto, the Democratic Principles. It presents that unjust authority inherently stems from the State by exploitation of classes, and that the very existence of a state will necessitate the need for class to exist. Only through stateless society can humanity hope to truly consider itself free. The goal of any society is to transition to this stateless utopia, and any state that arises following these principals exists as a transitory state. It is the founding ethos of the Confederate Systems of Lordania. It is opposed to the political beliefs of Poincarism, as Garcin disagreed with the concept of the Paladin d'Égalité, claiming any well meaning system and people can be misled by populists and extremists, going as far as to call it "A system by which the Terror of old is enforced.". Garcin believed that any state, no matter how well meaningful or well guarded from extremism, will always inevitably abuse that authority. What limited power people may have in the transitionary state comes only from its masses, with the belief that "those who govern best would never choose to govern first", adopting small scale policies of sortion and mutual consensus.   Fundamental to Garcinist belief is the recognition of pre-existing cultures, traditions, and ethnicites. The people have ties to their land that run deeper than the state that claims to govern it for them. Garcinists believe that the people have a right to be governed how they wish, and it is for this reason that the Confederate Systems of Lordania is a decentralised confederation containing a Capitalist Republic, a Union of Socialist Republics, a Worker-Led Shipbuilding Commune, a Post-Garcinist Anarchism, and a Colonial Republic. While these forms of government vary significantly, Garcinism as a dominant theory allows for their mutual existence and cooperation for survival. President and State Speaker of the Confederation, Ivy Arnott, called Garcinism "The glue that keeps our society together", despite her recent flirtations with a revived Poincarist-Garcinist movement.   Garcin did not believe any centralised state could be trusted, but recognised the need for such a state in interplanetary politics. Garcinism recognises the requirement for many centralised systems to allow society to function, but states that these centralised systems are in the hands of the people and the workers, as opposed to national or private ownership. Garcin once famously claimed, "The State owns nothing, it borrows everything from its people. All of which can be returned [to the people] at any time.". During the final days of the People's Republic, Garcin broke with Poincaré and Mei Zhuang to call for an end to the overzealous partisan activity against non-military Unitarian targets. He sparked significant controversy in 2278 when claiming that
"To the enemy, actions taken by good people with good intentions can be tyrannical. While we have every rights to seek revenge on those that have committed unspeakable evils against us, revenge will only create further tyranny and resentment. Having witnessed trials of Unitarian Collaborators who's crimes stemmed from propaganda and a sense of instability, much of which was created by the necessary actions of brave resistance fighters, I cannot help but understand that to many people, we too were tyrants."
While controversial at the time, by the time of his death, many former Unitarian collaborators paid their respects at his funeral for his efforts in reeducation as opposed to retribution.   Garcinism is largely only popular in the Lordanian Cluster, as well as various anarchist movements across Sol. The Vaikuntha Commune has many followers of Garcinism present in its government.
