Fregherikan Democratic Republic

The Fregherikan Democratic Republic[is an independent, multiplanetary republic that lies to the galactic west of Sol and south of the Lordanian Cluster . After roughly 70 years of being part of the United Nations of Sol-Aligned Systems, it declared its independence during the Serajji Conflict and has remained that way ever since, despite numerous attempts to peacefully reintegrate the territory into Sol. Despite relatively friendly relations and trading agreements with Earth, the Fregherikans remain hesitant and reluctant to give up this new freedom.   Astrographically, Fregherika is surrounded on all sides by human nations, many of which it has positive and friendly relations with. To the galactic north lies the Lordanian Cluster, with its two Lordanias. Fregherika has trade agreements with both states, though lacks a jump gate for direct access to the Confederate Systems of Lordania. Many Lordanians have settled in the systems closest to the cluster, most notably on the planet Szitka, where a unique Fregherikan-Lordanian culture is developing. In the east, Fregherika is fully bordered by the United Nations of Sol and its respective regions. The capital system of Riptmala has a direct jump gate connection to Xavier, a system within the UNSAS region of Prosperity, which historically encompassed most systems in Southern Fregherika. Its northern territories were part of the Sol Expansion Zone until independence and so have strong ties to other systems within these regions. In the galactic south, Fregherika borders the Tartarus Free Trade Zone. Despite warm trading relations, Fregherika keeps the region at arms length due to the Tartarus Revolution and political disagreements as Tartarus is effectively a pro-Sol technofeudal state. To the west lies Fregherika’s closest ally, the Brae Commonwealth, as well as the mysterious and largely isolated Union of Radical Transhumanists. The three groups have little in common but are bound through shared distaste towards Sol.   Fregherika has been settled by humanity since the mid 22nd century, as the early years saw humans spread far and wide across the region. During the Great Dyings, Fregherika was disconnected from Sol for a period of around 20 years, and recovered relatively quickly, fast enough to become part of the growing United Nations of Sol. For much of its history, Fregherika has been a core part of the outer worlds of Sol, generally left to its own affairs. This changed in the 2280s as increasing centralisation and economic mismanagement saw many frontier worlds develop burgeoning independence and autonomous movements. This would boil over upon the start of the Serajji Conflict, as Sol’s demand of blood and bodies to die on the other side of human space proved too much for the Fregherikans, who declared their independence shortly after. Sol, unprepared to fight both the Fregherikans and the Manorans, opted to let them leave peacefully in exchange for trade and mineral rights that would become crucial following Sol’s early defeats. It is widely accepted within Fregherika that “Sol only won because they were smart enough to be our friends.”   Fregherika is a democratic semi-presidential republic. Historically the region has followed the original Sol Colonisation Framework, a failed system that predominantly resulted in undemocratic systems of government and collapse during the Great Dyings. When the region was part of Sol, many of its democratic and state institutions followed suit and integrated within Fregherika, building them up into the modern systems that were capable of declaring independence. Following their independence from Sol, Fregherika retained its systems of government, though changing the system of Secretary-Generalship with that of a Presidential system. The President is a role of significant power, including appointing planetary ministers. This is kept in check through strong local parliament systems. Many of these institutions are under 30 years old, facing challenges for the first time, but are keen to preserve the rule of civilian law and justice.   Their current president is Simovi Hrikand, elected on a platform of improving Fregherikan welfare and social security. Elected in 2303, Hrikand and the Social Progress Party have spent the last 7 years encouraging job growth across the various systems of Fregherika, and are now starting to see the results of that development. The first few years of the Fregherikan economic boom are upon them.

Demography and Population

The Fregherikan People are largely divided across the nine systems of Fregherika, each with their own challenges and opinions within the newly formed Republic. Their newfound independence has led to a unique situation in which the Republic has a rapidly increasing population both in terms of migration and birth rates. While the Republic has agriworlds, these are only scarcely developed and often outcompeted in the form of cheap food from off-world.   Fregherika imports a great deal of food and high tech products, while utilising its resource rich planets to become Humanity's industrial backbone.

Territories

The Fregherikan state extends it's influence over nine star systems, each with a burgeoning and growing population. The capital and heartland of Fregherika is the planet that gives its name to the whole region, Freghera, located in the Riptmala System.

Riptmala

Riptmala is an F-Type star, roughly half way through its lifespan. It has six orbiting planets, of which only Freghera is both habitable and inhabited. The other planets in the system are home to satellites and orbital stations, and while plans have been drawn up to colonise these planets pre-indepencence, they have since had far more pressing matters to attend, leaving it up to a growing civilian colonial movement.   Freghera is a small and dense plains world dominated by incredibly vast open steppes and rocky deserts. It has no oceans, with much of the planets water located deep underground in massive aquifers. The major cities on the planet are often located close to where this water reaches the surface, taking on an oases-like pattern of green and fertile bodies of water in the middle of harsh and unforgiving desert. The largest of these cities also doubles as the Fregherikan capital, Flaynesby.   Orbiting Freghera is the moon of Sashtera, the darkstone satellite. Composed of dark basaltic rock, it is similar to Earth's Luna save for a lack of lighter material, giving it an almost black appearance in the equally dark night. It is tidally locked with Freghera, resulting in a near and far side. The near side is home to Sashtera major cities, their urban glow glistening against the black ground. These cities are reliant on imported food, but in exchange are some of Fregherika's financial capitals and highly urbanised.

Zwova

Zwova is a star system located to the galactic north of Riptmala. It is from the forge world of Osetin that Fregherika retains it's dominant position as the produced of the finest quality ship metal. It is a post-hadean world, having passed through its heavy bombardment period. Unlike Earth, the planet did not 'crack' into tectonic plates, resulting in a world unable to vent its excess heat. It is this heat that fuels the mills and foundries that dot the planet, with unique isotopic ratios resulting in durable metals perfect for interstellar shipbuilding. Osetin lies closest to Sol space which makes them some of Fregherika's biggest customer.   Wuy   Wuy is a K-Type star located in the Fregherikan Democratic Republic . It lies close to the borders of the Lordanian Cluster , and lies on an important trading route that stretches from Lordania to Dartactur. It is a melting pot of cultures, with its occupied world, Szitka, home to a unique blend of Lordanian-Fregherika cultures.   Czkun   Vazova   Citmitu   Demkik   Bizwa   Briceck       Riptmala - Fregherika: Sashtera Zwova - Osetin Wuy - Szitka Czkun - Teiuş Vazova - Nisovo Cimitu - Dârmoxa Demkik - no planets just orbital habs Smanbi Bizwa - Iojib Briceck - Koldan

Military

Fregherika maintains a small navy of inherited vessels. During the hazy and tense independence negotiations, Fregherika agreed to return any military vessel to Sol that had been present in their territory at the time. This included a clause that would allow for the return of some vessels after the war. Since practically none of them actually survived in any functioning way, this clause has grown into a Shipbuilding treaty between Sol and Fregherika, with older and outdated vessels being sold on the cheap in exchange for better rates on the minerals imported for Sol’s retrofitting naval improvements. As such Fregherika outfits a variety of older Sol vessels and their own modified merchant navy. In times of crisis, merchant ships can be called up and retrofitted for combat, though in practice this has never happened. Fregherika has not been involved in any conflicts or wars throughout its existence, with its navy predominantly serving as anti-piracy and smuggling patrols along the borders.

Agriculture & Industry

Economically, Fregherika is a burgeoning power, and while weaker than both Sol and Amarani, it is a major exporter of metals and industrial goods. Most planets have a reasonable standard of living, which has been a major sticking point following independence as the state has found its footing and tax base. For a brief period following independence, trade with Sol was discontinued amid great uncertainty and the Serajji Conflict. These unreliable markets starved Fregherika of luxury and consumer goods from the urban worlds of Sol, and forced it to look further afield to supply its food. This turned out to be a great benefit as Fregherika has largely been isolated from Sol’s food shortages and resource crises following the Serajji Conflict. As a major route between agriworlds such as Tersten and the rest of the galaxy, Fregherika has become quite rich in the eternal trade of feeding the trillions of mouths left hungry in the wake of Serajj. Due to the historic influence of Sol and the proximity of the Tartarus Free Trade Zone, many corporations are present within Fregherika. It has spent a good chunk of its independence arguing on the influence of corporate capitalism, leading to many regulations and laws limiting the power of corporate money. This has led many of the most powerful megacorporations to reduce business within Fregherika, maintaining only a small presence.   Some several million years ago a nearby supernova seeded many of the Fregherikan systems with substantial deposits of precious metals and heavy elements. While this has significantly reduced the agricultural output of these worlds, it has resulted in some of the most pure and substantial deposits located both on planets and in their systems asteroids. It is these metals that have resulted in Fregherika’s strong industrial base and powerful trade influence. The planet of Osetin serves as Fregherika’s production capital, and it is Osetin Steel that rebuilt much of Sol following the end of the Serajji Conflict.
