The Inquisition: Architects of Empire from the Ashes of Divinity

A Chronicle of its Genesis, Ascendancy, and Enduring Mandate;

Of Origins and Purpose:

  From the twilight of the God-Kings did rise The Inquisition, an institution forged in the crucible of overthrown divinity. Born of the conviction that mortal exaltation breeds tyranny, their tenet was stark: to quell the veneration of any thinking soul, be they sentient or sapient. Thus, did they seek to forestall the rise of new God-Kings, and avert a return to despotic sway.

Of Ascendancy and Influence:

  In time, The Inquisition waxed in power, its dominion extending across the breadth of Locus. Their methods, oft described as rigorous, were bent upon the eradication of any whisper of intelligent worship. This unwavering stance, deemed vital, aimed to erode the God-Kings' dominion – a purpose essential to their grand design. Their influence was not merely creedal, but extended to the very sinews of governance, shaping the era's socio-political tapestry.

Of The Year of Dissolution:

  Then came The Year of Dissolution, a cataclysmic epoch of strife. In this tempestuous time, the Inquisition's long-laid plans reached fruition, erupting in a revolution against the God-Kings. The cost was dire: some three million souls perished, nigh two-fifths of the populace. Yet from this carnage emerged a new dawn – the God-Kings' regime lay shattered, and Locus was irrevocably transformed.

Of Empire's Dawn and the Post-Revolutionary Order:

  In the aftermath, the Inquisition stood as architects of the nascent Empire. They laid the cornerstone for a new society, wherein worship was strictly governed, and the veneration of thinking beings proscribed. This framework, meticulously crafted, was intended to forever banish the specter of God-Kings and their ilk.

Of Contemporary Mandate and Practice:

  To this very day, the Inquisition stands as a steadfast sentinel of this ordained order. Their vow to prevent the worship of sentient deities remains unyielding, their enforcement zealous. With austere devotion, the Inquisition interprets its mandate, ensuring the lessons of ages past are not forgotten, and the sanctity of The Empire's creedal structure endures.   Through their unremitting vigilance, the Inquisition continues to cast a long shadow upon the religious and cultural heart of Locus. Their legacy, born in the tumultuous epoch of the God-Kings, stands as testament to their enduring power in shaping the very course of Locus' history.
