COR1-01 Dragonscales at Morningtide
General Summary
In this session the party forms and takes on their first adventure.
This session was not actually played, but we did use the synopsis of the adventure to descibe how everyone got together.
It all began over a hearty meal in the River Quarter of Greyhawk when we heard a commotion outside. Curious, we stepped out to find two short, blue-skinned creatures, xvarts as we would later learn, in a heated argument with three clerics of Pholtus. With tensions rising, we managed to calm things down just before blows were exchanged, giving the city watch time to arrive. Curious about the strange creatures, we questioned them. They were more than willing to explain their mission: the river was turning black, the fish were dying, and a mysterious sickness was spreading. There was also talk of a new cult claiming they could prevent the illness. Following the trail, we found the cultists in Shack Town, where many of the city's poorest lived. Without access to clean wells, they were forced to drink from the poisoned river. We watched as a cleric of the Earth Dragon cult performed a healing on a sick villager, boasting of the power of their god. But something felt off—this was no ordinary healing. We couldn’t shake the feeling that their methods were hiding something darker. It wasn’t long before we encountered the xvarts again. This time, they were demonstrating their own clerical powers, clearing rats from a warehouse with a prayer to their god, Raxivort. It was strange, but we had more pressing matters: the black currents that flowed through the river were spreading. After questioning the locals and observing the patterns, we discovered that the dark poison was coming from a specific spot in the river, near Shack Town. Upon investigating, we found a metal tube hidden beneath the water, spewing the deadly poison. That’s when the thieves ambushed us, desperate and hungry. We had no choice but to defend ourselves, but in doing so, we found ourselves shunned by the very people we were trying to help. Most of Shack Town wanted nothing to do with us now. Still, we pressed on. Near the tube’s origin, we encountered the Earth Dragon cultists again. This time, they had more followers, mostly the poor and desperate, who had begun to believe in the cult’s promises. When we confronted them, the cultists turned their followers against us, sending a mob to chase us off. But we wouldn’t back down. The situation escalated quickly. The cultists fled into their makeshift temple and, in their desperation, dumped all of the remaining poison into the river. As if that wasn’t bad enough, they threatened to destroy the antidote unless we let them escape. To make things worse, they set the temple on fire, and the flames threatened to engulf the entire district. It was chaos. The fire was spreading, and we knew that if we didn’t act fast, Shack Town would burn. And that’s when, unexpectedly, one of the xvart clerics reappeared. With their help, we managed to stop the cultists, save the antidote, and prevent the fire from spreading. Dozens of lives were spared that day, thanks to the intervention of that strange blue creature and our determination to see this through to the end. In the end, we had exposed the Earth Dragon cult for what they truly were—poisoners and manipulators. The river would heal, and the people of Shack Town would recover. But the memory of those dark days, the sight of black waters and desperate faces, would stay with us for a long time.
