The Queen of the Skies

The biggest skyship ever built.

As Darapur has grown, we have seen a great increase in wealth all around. We plan to capitalize on this in combination with the continued decade after decade of excitement of skyships by offering a luxury experience on the skies. It will travel to the outposts but also be capable of being a floating party barge. I call it the Queen of the Skies.
— Nosvar Intartum, Not Just Any Project Proposal

The First Luxury Passenger Liner

As the colonies have grown the current skyships have begun to show their restrictions in size as they must regularly turn away passengers because no more people can safely fit - the evacuation of Outpost 4 by the Barle saw incredibly overcrowded ships but that was a necessary risk.   Seeing this need and a chance to make money off the growing middle and upper classes of Darapur - as well as wealthy individuals from other parts of Zinato and nations beyond - Nosvar Intartum came up with a design for a ship unlike anything seen before, a skyship that would dwarf all others. One capable of transporting hundreds of people at once with room to spare for sit-down restaurants, dance halls, theatrical performances, and more.   The group that agreed to fund the construction of the ship is an unlikely one, the Riverflow Lumber Company. It is a powerful organization within Zinato, owning a majority of the lumber operations in the region but a company that has never operated a skyship before.   The maiden voyage is not far away, as it is expected to be in the summer of 67 EX. Tickets for this trip are already sold out, having gone on sale early in 66 EX to help fund the completion of the project which is still deep in the red.

Custom Floatdrive

The design of the Queen of the Skies required not only immense changes to the standard design of a ship but for the floatdrive as well. This design could only be accomplished by the Machine Priests who produce them and Nosvar needed to get them on board.   To do so, he offered them a portion of the earnings of the vessel - up to a certain amount - which they eventually accepted, though it seemed like they were more interested in the design challenge it posed than any monetary gains.   The ship was so heavy that it would have collapsed under its own weight during construction if the last step had not been moved earlier in the process. It is standard procedure for the floatdrive to be provided to the builders for installation only after a ship is complete but that was not possible in this case and is the first ever exception to the rule. With this done, the ship's weight was effectively reduced and construction was able to continue.
