Umeji Junko
We couldn't trace you after you disappeared. The next thing I heard from you was two years later in an impersonal letter saying you'd joined the Yakuza. You had the gall to blame your uncle for not retrieving you after Hideki died. What kind of a letter was that to write to your mother?
Overview
An accountant who spent most of her earnings on trying to find her son, Umeji Tatsuya. She insisted on returning early from America during a life-saving treatment and has paid for that with her long term health. It was bad enough that her husband, Umeji Hideki, had died of a heart attack. Her world fell apart after Tatsuya disappeared. She called in every favor she could muster, hired private investigators, and learned more about missing children than she could stomach. So she started a non-profit, Find Our Children, to help her with her search and provide her knowledge and connections to other families. When a letter arrived hinting that he was cutting ties, she collapsed and had to be rushed to the hospital.
