Summer Camp 2024

Summer Camp, my favorite WA event, is around the corner! Woot! It's time to prep and figure out plans. And I am *hoping* to be more active this year. (Last year was too crazy to do more than Copper level and there wasn't time to sponsor a prompt.)

Indexed all my articles via tag. (Thank you Satrium for the tutorial!)

Tag Project 3

Redid the book list statblock for showing what character/article is in what book or story. Using tags now.
Details
Had hoped to put it in the world global sections. But there isn't one for the full width footer. And the copyright footer is too far down for what I wanted.

Ohno Suzu
Character | Jul 11, 2025

Cashier at TaniMart. Friends with Mie Sumika. Can't figure out Umeji Tatsuya - but there's a connection to him.

Tag Project 4

Horizontal Article Blocks - Susanne Lamprecht gets credits for the Idea and part of the code snippet
Details
Davina had posted a cool horizontal article block code snippet. Compact and visually pleasing. She gave permission to use it, so I added it. But since I didn't want all my article blocks to look like this and it didn't work well for me on mobile, I make it only viewable with bigger screens and via a container class (for a set of article blocks) or tag class (for all article blocks on a page).

Removed Religion Designation on Characters

I've debated on this for a while. As I understand it, most Japanese don't identify with a religion. A few of my friends do. But they are the exception. Much of what the West would call religious is just considered part of being Japanese. So I opted to remove the designation.

Tagging
my categories are good and last year I made a tag list article so I don't forget important tags
Meta
Looked it over and it still applies
Community Support
I'm on the WA Discord and a few others. So I have the community support.
Styling
I may rework how I do my character pages. Pondering this. I like the Dossiers I came up with for my secrets on Umeji's page. Should I bring at least part of those out of secrecy and rework the character pages? Camp may be a good place to test this for new characters and see how I feel about it.
CSS
The spaghetti monster that is my code is much beloved. I add stuff as I need it. Camp (or just before it) is not a good time for me to make massive changes. Though, Satrium's ideas on Stubs, Tags, etc are brilliant. I may need to snag those ideas.

Inspiration
NEW
  • Pinterest board set with promp specific sections (w/ images, art, quotes, etc.). This is mostly a book 3 inspiration set.
  • OLD
  • * I don't have a set of inspiration for the world, because there's inspiration for each book. Hopefully that makes sense. The books are where the world started.
  • Trip inspiration for Rise (Google slides)
  • Optimize Your Environment
  • WORKSPACE: This is challenging for me right now, we just had water in our basement and the house is chaos! But I tried my best to organize my little corner in the livingroom.
  • TEA: always stocked! When I pull the last box out of my stash, I order more. :D
  • DO NOT DISTURB SIGN: done for April's writing event. Double checked the hours I had listed on it - they are still good.
  • WRITING AND EDITING TIME: Blocked out on my calendar.
  • TIMER: For focus and pomodoro sprints has working battery.
  • MUSIC: Youtube channels favorited for chill ambient music. Bandcamp playlist downloaded.
  • Review Homepage
(will do if I have the spoons - have chaos with house right now)

    Prompt Themes

Let's get some ideas down so I'm not scrambling each day.

    THEME: CHANGE

Tumultuous times are interesting moments to set stories in, whether they be due to natural disasters, sickness, conflicts, or others. Characters face unusual challenges, infrastructure breaks down, and society as a whole can change. Change can be big and small—from the size of a small community or city to the entire universe, and it can be positive and negative.
      Ideas for CHANGE
    Book 3 Sharable CHANGE[ Nonogawa
  • new characters?
  • any adjustment to having Umeji there?
  • Growing - why, how? What is the town doing?
  • Need a Nonogawa and LC calendar
  • The League (SEEKRIT)   Relationships
  • Soujou-bou and Umeji
  • BFP (SEEKRIT)   The world
  • Attitudes
  • Yakuza dwindling
  • Yokai population dwindling (SEEKRIT)
  •   Natural Disasters?
  • mudslide?
  • falling stars (what does it signify)?
  • Changes for LC (Updates - Non Camp)
  • Primer article for Liminal Chronicles (book series and world)
  • update the main character profiles to the "secret" dossiers. I like those better.
  • what magic abilities do they have (if any)
  • Magic system tweaks? (What has changed since I documented it?)
  • Reorganize secrets - more newbie friendly
  • Guardian uniform - non formal option for summer - jinbei (Legend)

  •

    THEME: REFUGE

Where do you go when everything around you changes? A refuge can be a literal place (like a building or a city), but it can also be anything that keeps you safe or comforts you. The change someone takes refuge from can also be small in the grand scheme of things—sometimes, small changes can have deep consequences on a specific person or group.
      Ideas for REFUGE
    Book 3 Sharable REFUGE
    Nonogawa
  • Naka's House
  • Community Center (I've been meaning to make one for Nonogawa)
  • Community Fund (tho help those in need and with the festivals)
  • The League (Some are SEEKRIT)
  • Kairi
  •   Relationships   The world
  • teacher bonds/loyalty
  • where can yokai go beyond Sumichou and Kyoji?
  • Umeji's dog earred book (it deserves an entry - not just a mention)
  • Ofuro (bath)
  • home
  • Natural Disasters?
  • (community center - as mentioned above)
  • Schools
  • Changes for LC (Updates - Non Camp)
  • the shrine - could use some touch up!

  •

    THEME: BELIEF

Religious belief is a foundational element for many cultures, but belief doesn't have to be about religion! Beliefs can be about superstition, urban legends and myths, people you believe in, and more. Essentially, anything and anyone that inspires people, for good or ill.
      Ideas for BELIEF
    Book 3 Sharable BELIEF
    Nonogawa
  • Local folklore and legends
  • more local yokai and tales of them
  • Comunities are kind of like family. You are expected to help out with local activities and to donate to the community fund (for those activities and to help those dealing with hardship)

  •   The League (SEEKRIT)
      Yokai and groups
  • boar monk character

  •   Relationships
  • respect is KING
  • heirarchy in society is in every aspect
  • need to see the eyes to read the person (no sunglasses - or people think you're hiding something)

  •   The world
  • repurcussions of belief and lack of it
  • the belief that everything has a spirit (so people take good care of things)
  • Japanese are not "religious" per say. But they do things that could be considered religious because those things are just a part of being Japanese.
  • Looking the part for whatever you are doing is important.
  • Changes for LC (Updates - Non Camp)
  • Shitani Daisuke needs some updates
  • Kotodama (power of the word)

  •

    THEME: DECAY

Most things decay over time, but, just like all other themes, decay can be understood in a multitude of ways. There's physical decay, but there's also moral decay—both often go hand-in-hand with old organizations, and physical decay can be used as a metaphor for moral decay. And decay isn't always a bad thing - an evil empire might crumble so something better can flourish. Think about how people in your world try to prevent decay too!
      Ideas for DECAY
    Book 3 Sharable DECAY
    Nonogawa
  • Hard for new people to fit into small towns - which adds to their decline.
  • While Nonogawa is growing, the decline in population in surrounding towns puts strain on Nonogawa's resources. (School districts merging, transportation, etc.)
  • dragon territory boundaries
  • privacy in a small town (Umeji is still not used to this)

  •   The League (SEEKRIT)
      Yokai and groups
  • Kegare increasing at an unprecidented rate
  • Consider yokai of decay: Hone Onna and Gashadokuro
  • Moving an enshrined kami can be dangerous! (see comments in the article)

  •   Relationships
  • Satou's complicated love life. It's not pretty. At all.

  •   The world
  • Most small towns are declining in population. Leaving many areas abandoned or at the least neglected.
  • Neglected Torii not claimed by a Jinja falling down - but govt. can't demolish it. (this article's comments)
  • Changes for LC (Updates - Non Camp)
    (SEEKRITS)

    Nnie's Camp Chill Guidelines

    - Remember the prompts are suggestions, not requirements.

    - Write what you're passionate about, leave what you aren't.

    - Relax when you feel tired.

    - Fight off any pesky brain-squitos trying to make you doubt your work.

    - Don't abandon your non-summercamp goals! Write that article you're itching to write, even if it doesn't fit any prompts.
