Wings of Mourning
The grief of one became the grief of many.
In the early days of Gracetown, as people began to settle in the massive tree in the clouds, lives were lost to experimentation and innovation; the daring nature of first settlers and explorers meaning that many young foliad and troll discovered terminal velocity as ambition became greater than skill.
The wings of mourning was one style of clothing made popular in early years Gracetown that reminded people of the fragility of life and honoured the risky dead that had helped set up the city. Built around a shoulder-cloak and descending two light etheral wings down the back (often to the back of the knees), the idea was that one would mimic the Levis flying insects common to Mepovaris.
The Dark Romantic subculture has obviously procured this outfit style in centuries since, staining it red so much that Gracetown dark romantics are often called "red-wings"
