Maned Seeleck

They are the border between vicious cunning and a mean bastard of a species. Hooting their warning from the rocky outcrops between Solaris and the Nocturne Empire, the Maned Seeleck is too smart for your own good. Especially if you are the kind of thing to hunt it.
The maned seeleck (an ocean heavy marsupial) lies in the centre of the ocean ecology network, and is incredibly aware of this fact. Utilising wit and tools, the seeleck is known for using bait to attract its prey and to catch and bleed the sharks that would attack its mating grounds, hauling the shark into the shallows and spiking it into the sand with rudimentary spears, the scent of the shark driving away other predators from the rocky breeding zones seelecks mate within.

Basic Information

Anatomy

With a long, sleek body and four bone filled flippers, the truth weapon of the seeleck is the long snout with an arrangement of sharp teeth capped off by four canines. Covered in short tan, waterproof fur, and a long black mane over the shoulders and down the spine, the seeleck is a swift swimmer, even if it is slower and clumsier on land. Male Seelecks are smaller than the females, though they possess purple shoulder spikes with a limited venom. Females fight each other for a harem of males, who during breeding season carry the young in small pouches once they are born.   Seelecks breath air, and have a variety of ways that they mitigate their breathing when deep diving much like the reader's sea lion.

Ecology and Habitats

Seelecks live and mate on the rocky outcroppings north of Solaris and just within the Nocturne Empire, they fish within the seaweed forests deep within the waters there, sometimes hunting deeper within the trenches that riddle the ocean floor there.

I don't think I'd want to run into one of these on the shoreline.
