Dry Season Night Markets

Hear the chattering of folk after a long day, listen to the sound of good mead and Starberry wine brought out to drink. Hear the call of the bards over the rushing of the waterfall. And know that the cleanup tomorrow will ache them weary bones.

When the nights get short, and humid and the heat echoes off every rock face, Brambleberry brings its market time for three ends of the week into the night. The vines are hung, the forest breathes deep, and the fun is brought out to be traded and shared.
Games are set up on some of the tiered platforms that scale the wall of the canyon that makes up the town, while people mill and chat on the draping bridges, eating food made and traded for each of these nights. Lax deals run on these nights, deliberately made to favour the passing of goods between the community, with the Trademaster taking notes through the night to help make the day fair while the night remains fun. The community will not allow levity and recklessness to produce ruin when Morticia and Debron dance into the day's skies.
Many years have seen Mr Kaito pass through with his floating lanterns and specialty outfits, though the last few have been hampered by his place on the Council Member seat in Natare.

No rest in the shadows

One of the quirks of the night markets, is that there are certain creature-kin who are designated Shadows, for the night, send to ward people from clustering in the dark spaces or setting up stalls there. Usually made up from the kin with nocturnal lineages, the Shadows come from a space where it was believed the spirits of Night and Day were closest during the markets and that the shadows were places of taboo dealings and skunt deals.

Brews and bruise

Non alcoholic drinks served at the market often include an amheriste cordial mixed with local spices that might remind the reader of cloves.
Tea is also found at the market, chilled usually, fresh and without any form of creaming agent.
One of the older tea brewing families hosts a sparring match each of the market nights. The family comes from a long line of Combat Mages, and enjoys testing their skills against the physically stronger but less skilled combatants and challengers.

History

Some say the markets predate Brambleberry, a Silvermist tradition brought over for the unification of foliad and creature-kin communities; some say the Shadows themselves whispered to the Midnight-One and demanded a tribute and that the markets are a rebuttal, community and light to fight the clever shadows. Either way, the markets swirl with stories and histories that come to light the more one talks to any local or elder sort that is enjoying a stiff mead and a good song.
