Amheriste
When taste is key, try the Amheriste.
A sun and heat tree, the likes of which span the length of the rain shadow of the mountains that separate Solaris from Saburra, the tree is most known with the desert city previously mentioned. With long, thick, boring roots for water seeking; and finer capillaries for supporting the tree upon the red desert sands, the Amheriste is a hardy tree that is slowly immigrating eastward with each passing dry season. Growing up to 5m tall, it is the soul of its community.
The Journey and Reproduction
The trees are moving eastward via the consumption of the seeds by explorers and traders making the journey into the unknown. The seeds of the amheriste are tiny, and their casing is designed to cause digestive tract irritation. The fibre in the flesh of the fruit provides nutrients enough to ensure the survival of the next generation.Fruit and its Uses
The fruit of the plant is a large pod, with a thick edible skin, and six segments. Inside each segment is a viscous acidic pulp filled with tiny seeds, sweet and sour, with an earthy fore-taste. The pulp starts an almost translucent yellow, darkening into a reddish-brown when mature.A brown cordial
Amheriste paste is wonderful spooned into a cup of water for a represhing, if earthy tasting cordial. However adding sweetness in honey or septum, and some sort of hot spice can bring out the flavours. Many in Saburra will forego water for mixing it with the saps of some of the squeezed gel of a succulent. Most of the gels chosen will chemically degrade under the desert sun, and form a think binding liquid that can host the amherisate all the same.
