Vodyanoi

One of the first species of life that settlers encountered was the vaguely humanoid like amphibians. At first some thought that they were the actual inhabitants of the world, that they had been responsible for building the vast cities, the monuments etc. Such theory was swiftly dispproved.

Vanya Kropotkin dubbed them 'vodyanoi' as they resembled in some ways the anicent water spirits of pre revolutionary Slavic mythology. As far as anyone has been able to tell Vodyanoi dwell in river systems, especially estuaries, hence their presence near the ruins of Dig Zero which is located at an estuary.

Given the name there were some who pondered if these creatures would have a penchant for luring people into the water to kill or eat. Observation has demonstrated that this is not the case, at least not for humans. Vodyanoi do have a fondness for luring pets into the water, to seemingly play with them and then suddenly consume them.

Appearance wise Vodyanoi look like frog people, they can stand upright, have opposable thumbs on their hands, which have four fingers & one thumb each, and their feet are webbed. They predominantly stay in the water of the river where they live though they have been known to shelter on rocks and in some cases have wandered around the river side streets of Krasnygorod.

People often shoo them away with gestures, curses or simple speech. They seem to understand phrases such as "Go away", "Don't bother me" and "Bugger off". It is also interesting to note that no one has seen a dead Vodyanoi nor have any Vodyanoi remains been discovered.
