In the closing years of the Settlement Era (2190 to 2210 CE) efforts were made by private interests to establish a planetary sporting competition. There was some debate as to what sport should be given consideration and established, vested interests in Krasnygorod wanted American Football but in the end it didn't stand a chance. In the end it was the beautiful game that won out, Football Association (FA) football had come to Lazarus.

Naturally there was a plan behind this, it wasn't just about the beautiful game it was about influence. The Lazarus County Football Association (LCFA) was created by corpoate elements to give their nascnet political wing, the Corporatist Party, a legit way of influencing people outside of 'normal' channels. Football Association (FA) football proved to be the perfect vehicle.

The rules of association football began in late 19th Century England, a European nation on Earth. According to history this was the birth of the beautiful game, though the claim has been disputed by other cultures on Earth. Yet despite the dispute of the game's origins its beginning as a professional club sport can potentially be traced to England.

Regardless of the origins though, football or soccer as some call it, is a universal, It is a game that is played literally by every nation on Earth. And with the backing of various corporate interests it is now the sport universally played across the settled regions of Lazarus. The governing body, Lazarus County Football Association (LCFA) has organised three separate competitions. These are:

• Men's League
• Women's League
• Mixed League (this a competition where teams are made of male, female & intersex players)

At the end of the season, the winners of each league face off in a Trial of Champions to be awarded the title Champion of Champions. Currently teams that compete in the three leagues are planetary based. Though the LCFA is looking at establishing franchises on the three orbitals. And if Calypso is to become another orbital it may also be granted a franchise.

Time will tell, but the beautiful game has found a fertile field in the interstellar deeps...
