Gangs of Krasnygorod

As time passed and things became more settled in the northern regions of the continent and Krasnygorod in particular, people began to form groups usually based around some icon, thing or idea. Some of these revolved around the motorcycle, some around politics and others around the ancient texts and 2d mediums of Old Earth.

Natrually these groups were often comprised of those on the bottom of the pecking order in the Workers Paradise. Although in regards to the more politically minded it was noted by the authorities that children of high placed apparatchiks were controlling things. They had the resources to set up such groups. In the case of the others they resorted to petty crime or violence.

In recent years some of the larger gangs have branched out into the arena of drug trafficking as well as acting as muscle for more organised groups. This has led to an interesting web of connections that transcend regional borders. And in some cases some gangs have provided the base from which larger organisations have drawn their recruits.

As it stands circa 2336 CE the 5th, 6th, 8th & 9th Divisions identify the following types of gangs:

  • Bosozoku = motorcycle gangs, commonly based around a charismatic leader who is a highly skilled rider. Bosozoku sometimes end up being recruited by the Mob and there are some who have achieved high ranks in the Yakuza
  • Crew = a crew usually follows some kind of political ideology, often a branch of old school communism. Crews are usually organised around a cabal of leaders or rarely a charismatic leader
  • Posse = Posses often are focused around a musical genre, a martial art and sometimes a specific political party or party figure. Unlike Crews Posses tend not to have the same level of centralisation, nor do they blithely follow a single leader like Bosozoku. Posses are about culture & style.
  • Vorovka = thief, vorovka gangs are litterally groups who engage in various forms of theft. It can also be data theft as well as the theft of physical goods and merchandise. Vorovka gangs are often afilliated within another group such as the Mob, Bratva.

Within the municipality of Krasnygorod membership of a gang is a criminal offence, usually punishable with one to three years jail time. Often commuted to hard labor. This law was implemented during the early days of the settlement when the party deemed membership of recidivist elements to be a danger, not only to the settlement as a whole but to party control.

Nowadays the Militsiya only applies this law if they want to make someone squeal or if they want to squeeze a suspect. This usually works with members of a Posse or Bosozoku gang. Vorovka and crew members can rely on patrons, connections or family to spring them from this charge.

Gangs are a great means for the larger groups to conceal their operations, they often serve as laranja. And it is because of this usefulness that the Mob, Family, Black Societies and others are happy to back these groups. They give them cover, though if they or their members should stop being useful, the syndicates are only to happy to toss them to the dogs.
