When Rudolph (Rudy to his friends) Cacciatore arrived on Lazarus with the other settlers on board the Novo Mir colony vessel (circa 2098 CE, -7 SC, 2 DC) he knew that this world was where he could make his name. Initially he had hoped to be one of the brave bold explorers of this new world, littered as it was with fantastic ruins and stranger creatures straight from old CGI monster flicks.

Alas Rudolph Cacciatore was not to become another Ryu'ichi Dyson. Instead he ended up being a short order cook in a dig site mess hall cooking meals for hungry Diggers and their assistants. While not a glamourous job it was a job and the dig site where Cacciatore was located proved big enough to ensure he had constant work and pay.

With the money he managed to save, Rudy eventually left the dig and moved to the nascent settlement of Krasnygorod. Here he decided he would open not a restaurant, but a cafe. His first establishment was dubbed Uncle Rudy's Fast Food Eatery. Rudy was something of an avuncular character much admired by his clientele. And while he had a loyal devoted clientele business was so so. And let's face it he was engaged in a decidedly cut throat business.

Literally.

Organised crime gangs had seen the potential in eateries as a means for providing income as well as laundering ill gotten gains. The eatieries also served as great places where gangsters could lounge about, drink, plot and generally scare off other paying customers. It was during these years that the first full scale conflict among the settlers occurred.

Consolidation Era historians would later dub this period "the Cafeteria Carnage' (9-10 DC or 2-3 SC) others though dubbed it the First Syndicate War. It certainly saw gunfights and chaos break out in the various settlements and specifically in eateries and grog houses. But it also saw certain gangs gobble up other gangs and take over their turf and resources. The foundation was set for the eventual emergence of the Union Draco and La Grande Famiglia.

'Uncle' Rudy managed to make his way through this chaotic time with the aid of his head waitress, Jolanda, and his assistant, Igor. His assistant had ties with local law enforcement while Jolanda's younger brother was a corporate exec with Mikoyan Grumman. Such ties enabled Rudy and his humble eaterie to whether the crisis.

Five years after the crisis Rudy opened his second eaterie. But he didn't know what to name it. It was his assistant who gave him a hint, he remarked that the food they served was like having a bomb going off in your mouth with spicy goodness. Rudy hugged Igor and it is from this simple remark that Atomik Cafe was born. As soon as he could, Rudy had the name registered and never looked back.

Now in 231 SC (239 DC) Atomik Cafe's can be found dotted all across the settled areas of Lazarus. Recently, Emilia Cacciatore - Vargas, opened the first orbital branch of the cafe chain on Ascension Station. Truly from the humble beginnings of a dig site short order cook to a planetary chain Atomik Cafe has stood the test of time. And their are further plans for expansion of the chain, though precisely where is yet to be revealed.
