Lapis of Nicodem Books

Lapis trained for eight years to avenge the death of her family at the hands of the rebel traitor. She moved to the capital of Jiy with her partner, Patch, became a chaser of justice, and waited for the opportunity to strike.   When the moment comes, she hesitates. Not only does she have a new life, but things are happening within the rebellion to make her wonder whether revenge would destroy all she wants to save. Choosing vengeance or her future never seemed so difficult.   In the end, she may not have a choice.

More enemies than Lapis ever imagined have targeted her, and she feels her life spiraling out of control. Her partner, Patch, believes the solution to her problems lies in Ambercaast, the defunct mining city in the western mountains outside of Jiy.   Ambercaast, however, has its own problems. From a Dentherion workstation menaced by mercenaries to strange, non-human beings, the quick in-and-out Patch anticipated disappears under intrigue. Why are so many entities interested in Ambercaast? Do they believe the mines still contain tech-powering aquatheerdaal? Or is there another reason for their interest?

Lapis wishes to return to Grey Streets chasing and her normal everyday. Enemies, however, have a way of interfering with such wants.   The search for Bov Caardinva leads her, Patch, and their companions to the country of Abastion. Its northern mountains house the Shivers, an ancient Taangis Empire mine. As with Ambercaast, the mine houses khentauree--and long-forgotten secrets Caardinva and his benefactor want to rediscover.
