Everan of the Silver Eye

Everan is a tall, slender elf with the poised stillness of someone who measures every moment. His hair is walnut brown with russet undertones, worn in a loose tail held by a jade clasp. His eyes are striking—one green and one shimmering metallic silver, the latter catching light unnaturally like a polished moonstone. He dresses in flowing green and umber robes, embroidered with arcane sigils, and wears many rings that jingle softly when he moves. His voice is cool, mellow, and unreadable, as if every word is weighed before spoken.

People believe that Everan can see magical auras, sense curses, and even detect and pierce illusions with his silver eye. He appears to have an encyclopedic knowledge of magical items and qualities, and especially what their value is.   One of the services the Green Door provides is enchantment of items for a fee. Whether Everan himself is an enchanter or employs another is unknown.

Everan is known to carry a Wand of Dispelling on his person. In his shop, has also keeps Collars of Negation, heavy Voidsteel chain collar with a large metal disk in front, designed to keep chaotic magic wielders from damaging his wares with their wild magic.

Everan was born and raised in the settlement of Aerelindor in the Talan'thir Concord, the Elf confederation of villages among the Feynault Forest of Veltingard. Like many of his family, Everan showed an affinity for magic. Years of tutoring followed from some of the wisest and learned Elf wizards. However, by his early adolescence it was clear that his talent for magic was limited. Undeterred, he tried testing into both Mautsmiths and the Silent Tower but did not pass the entry exams for either. His teachers did discover a special talent for detecting and identifying magical auras.   With his dreams of magic dashed, Everan tried his hand at a number of crafts, but learned while he was a quick learner, he would never achieve mastery in any of the arts or crafts he tried. Eventually, he apprenticed to a master trader and became skilled in appraising valuable objects. After several years of apprenticeship, Everan left his master and started on the Path of Travelers in the Elven tradition, serving as an appraiser and arcane broker for caravans traveling in the Lands of Legend. Early in his career, a pair of street thieves attempted to rob him. One reported afterward that “the elf turned and his eye flashed like a silver sun,” frightening them into fleeing without a fight. The tale spread through taverns, becoming exaggerated in each retelling. Soon customers began asking for “the elf with the silver eye,” and the name stuck—eventually becoming so common that Everan adopted it as a professional moniker.   Rumor has it that during one of these journeys, Everan met and saved the life of the prior owner of the magical shop known as the Green Door, an elderly Human hedge wizard. According to the story, in gratitude for saving his life, the wizard offered Everan the shop for an absurdly low price on the condition he “keep the door painted green and never sell cursed items knowingly.” Everan accepted and quickly transformed the place into one of Lys’s most respected—if eccentric—arcane markets.
