Tenets of Faith
Eoa was born of Raya out of her marriage to Skeinor. As an immortal child-god, he looked out upon the world his mother had created, but saw only his father's storm clouds. He watched as his mother wept at the loss of her sister, down below the dark clouds, and at the loss of the world she had fashioned. As a dutiful child, he gathered her tears and flung them into the sky, where they hang even unto this day and are called stars. He listened to the rantings of his father, who raged at his goddess wife for the loss of his freedom and her betrayal of his love by sharing the creation of the world with her sister alone, and not with him.
As time passed, Eoa became convinced that this state of affairs had to end. Having both the powers of light from his mother, and the powers of rain from his father, Eoa gathered his strength, then leapt from the heavens to pierce his father's storm clouds, letting the light and heat from his mother touch upon the land below. As he landed upon the ground, he saw the plants unfurl their green leaves and grow tall. He heard the trilling of birds as they soared in the bright blue sky. He watched as one by one, the animals came alive and begin to populate the world. He experienced the beginning of all life, and reveled in the joy he felt.
But Skeinor was not pleased that his son had thwarted his will. Enraged, Skeinor forbade his son from ever returning to the heavens, instead requiring him to always be attached to the earth. He likewise took from his son his immortality.
Eoa, now mortal, walked the newly formed world, teeming with life. Yet he was alone among the animals. Seeing this, Raya his mother sent to him a prism wand, and Eoa channeled his heart through the wand, creating the High Races, one of each color of his heart. Each High Race grew in numbers and stature, even as they pledged allegiance to Eoa as their leader. Eoa became lord, then king, then first Emperor of the Chromatic Empire. As the High Races began to intermingle, their colors began to merge until they formed a new race of men: Human. And for centuries, the Chromatic Empire grew and prospered in peace.
Yet Eoa had no children he could call his own. So, he left the rule of his Empire in the hands of wise advisors and journeyed deep and far. Where he went and who he met, no one, living or dead, can truly say, but when he returned to the Empire’s capital city, he bore in his arms two infants, a boy and a girl. Eoa called these his children, and named them: his son he named Korax, his daughter he named Clea. They grew tall and proud like their father. Eoa ruled his empire justly and well, and taught all that he knew to his children. He delighted in new experiences, like a child would, and shared that joy of discovery with all his subjects. But though he lived long, his father had decreed it - he was mortal, and all mortal men must die.
As he felt the last of his life draining from him as sands in an hourglass, Eoa called his children to attend upon him. He divided his possessions into two piles. In one pile he put his crown and the rule of the world, in the other Eoa put his prism wand and all the knowledge and wisdom he had gathered. To each child, he laid this choice - they could choose one pile, the other, or neither. He informed them that they could choose the same pile together if they wished, but no one should choose both piles.
He watched as his son chose the crown and his daughter the wand. "You have chosen well," he told them, "for you are both different and independent people. But your choices can bring you together to bring our people to even greater prosperity. It is wisdom to follow the commands of one's leader, but a great leader listens to the wisdom of others. Thus, by relying upon each other and working together, there is nothing you cannot do."
Then he smiled and passed from life into the realm of the dead.
