The Auðumbla Crash

The science department has done a lot of research on Ymir. But so far, there is little they can tell us. Back when the Starseed was being developed, they found out that the real planet we were all meant to go to, was likely too hot even in its shadow-side. In contrast, Gliese 581g was confirmed to be habitable, even if it was expected to be an eyeball planet. When the Glieseed finally arrived, they could confirm that Ymir was indeed suited for us, and less an eyeball planet than feared. Yes, the dark side is ice, but the eyeball is larger than expected. There was even more water than anticipated, which actually matched their readings.   In recent years, they told us that they finally figured out why, why the fake Ymir turned out to suit us so well, why its temperature is far hotter than expected, why so much of it is habitable. They tell us that an object had once collided with the planet and brought it more water and heat. This object, they hypothesise, would have been a dwarf planet that kept its water even in the early stages of Gliese 581, then had its orbit disrupted. Because it fed Ymir, they named this planet Auðumbla, after the mythological cow that fed the frost giant Ymir.   So let us recap. They aimed to pioneer a planet. But when that planet proved to be uninhabitable, they miraculously found that another planet, one that throughout history had repeatedly been considered disproven, could actually house us despite how initially it was to be expected to not be able to provide enough for us to build a new civilization. And now we find out that some planetary crash made this possible, that the planet was seeded but by pure happenstance.   And at the same time, magically, their superserum is more effective here, while also larger creatures wander this world, far outweighing their Terran equivalents. And a world with eternal sunlight somehow even managed to grow plants that suit our diet and only grow in the dark.   And they expect us to believe those lies?
