Lupus Minor

Everything is bigger on Ymir, or so we say. You'd then ask why dem wolves are the same size as on Earth, well, there's a reason we're calling them Minor. Dem big ones, they're Lupus Major and those are nasty. A large pack of those will actually pick fights with Ursa Majors. Not these, they know better than to risk that kinda fight unless absolutely necessary. Mayhaps that's why they work so closely with dem Corvus flocks.   Now dem scientists, they'll tell you there's not enough hard evidence to establish how intelligent the local animals are. But when a crow comes up to its wolf-friend and snitches on a moose that was a jerk to another crow, and within mere hours said moose has been hunted down by a wolfpack? We know what's up, really we do. Honestly, it feels like dem scientists are holding back on that intel, mayhaps to protect dem critters. Lords know the military leaders would love training these critters into attack hounds. Not me, though. Treat them as friends, I say, not as tools.   Now what you need to know, is that these wolves are perhaps a bit of a coward, carefully hunting in large packs with the help of Corvus flocks. Works quite well for both sides, really. Safety in numbers, easily accessible prey, advanced warning system. But don't go be pickin' a fight with them. They don't like strangers intruding on their territory, and while they might just snarl at you as they retreat, their bird friends will remember your face and make you regret it. Best get that bribe ready for forgiveness.
