Lottie, Rattigan, Goblin Killers, Qu'Est-Ce Que Ç'Est?
General Summary

TLDR
The members fought some Goblins that attacked a caravan of travelers. Lottie used one of the discarded skulls to make a sick Cubone-like helmet. After a bit of light infiltration work the Party bottlenecked about 20 Goblins in a fight in a small chamber within the cavern system. They moved on to fight a Deep Troll, 8 Goblins and a Fire Elemental in a larger chamber near some Drow ruins. The Party prevailed and freed the Fire Elemental named Sophie from the Troll’s control. They failed to rescue a Dwarf, Magistrate Gimbal, who went missing; it turned out the Goblins previously killed him. Their mission fulfilled, Walt took the prisoners back to the Fringe via teleporter. As they were going back to Block E a man named Dr. K took Rattigan aside and performed some experiments on him which is where the session ended for the night.
The Party began the session along with the other members of Cell Block E (minus Zilch) plus Walt on their way to clear out some Goblins that killed a bunch of merchants along a main trading road. Walt also wanted the Block to rescue a minor official, Magistrate Gimbal, who was part of one of the caravans and was now missing. They quickly found signs of the attacks then a dugout containing the first Goblin. Lottie quickly dispatched the Goblin from above. She picked up one of the discarded skulls that was missing a jawbone and wore it as a sort of improvised helmet.
The Block quickly found another entrance to the cave system which the Goblins used for their hidden movements and for shelter. Lottie and Molar scouted ahead, uncovering about 40 goblins and a Deep Troll living in some Drow ruins. The Block ambushed three Goblins playing poker but alerted many more to their presence.
The Block had a little bit of time before the next wave of Goblins arrived so they set traps in a small chamber that led to the main chamber. Lottie wove webs while Molar placed bear traps on the ground to slow down the attackers. They were also helped by the natural bottleneck that the room and adjoining tunnel created.
About 20 Goblins tried to rush the Block. In the ensuing skirmish, the members of Block E slew all 20 Goblins with only Rattigan going down (mostly from self-inflicted damage) but was quickly brought back to the fight by a Healing Word from Abeni.
After the smaller skirmish the members of Block E advanced into the main chamber to find the Deep Troll and eight of his Goblin servants. It seemed that at least 20 or more Goblins that Lottie saw before were now gone. The Troll tried to get Block E to join him in following the Raven Man, ‘a king in the dark.’ When the group refused the Troll summoned a fire elemental and surged forward.
The members of Block E quickly dispatched the Goblins and detained the Fire Elemental. Lottie tripped the Troll with her webs and Molar blinded it with a flashbang they previously stole from Heyman. Rattigan eventually landed the killing blow by flinging a black stone into the Troll’s mouth which liquified its organs with necrotic energy.
With the Troll and all of its Goblin followers dead, the Fire Elemental turned back into a half-Tiefling, half-Fire Elemental named Sophie. She said that she was a prisoner of the Troll and thanked everyone for rescuing her. She also told Walt the bad news that the Goblins previously killed Magistrate Gimbal and threw his body into the aptly named body pit.
With their mission fulfilled, Walt and the Block escorted Sophie to the edge of the ravine. When she departed the block returned to the Fringe. On their way back to their block, a man stopped Walt with orders from the Warden for Rattigan to follow him.
Rattigan had no choice but to follow. He was knocked out and ended up on a table with the man who said his name was Dr. K and his assistant Talena. They tried to command Rattigan to do some basic actions but it didn’t seem to work. Dr. K then turned to a rune inscribing machine that would make Rattigan feel ‘as right as rain again.’ That is where the session ended for the night.
Detailed Notes
Ext. A Ravine, Somewhere Outside of Throne, The Varanic Empire - Continuous From Last Session (Early Morning)
The session with Abeni/Ekundayo, Lottie, Molar, Persephone and Rattigan on a work assignment in a rural of the Varanic Empire along with Team B (the other members of their block) and Walt, the Block Warden. The Warden tasked both teams and Walt to kill out some Goblins (and possibly a fire mage) who killed several caravans of people along a main trading road. He said that the Goblins were also holding Magistrate Gimble. and the block would get a bonus if they brought him back alive. Walt went with Team A into the ravine where the Goblins likely launched their attack while Team B stuck to the lip of the ravine to clear out any attackers that could get the drop on Team A. Walt took point, accompanied by Lottie who watched over Group A from above. Rattigan also accompanied Walt in the front of the group with the others cautiously proceeding behind. So Group A went down a small footpath into the rocky, reddish ravine. After about fifteen minutes, they came to some destroyed waggons and what Rattigan thought smelled of brimstone. Bodies of the caravaners showed charring and suggested a fire mage or fire elemental in the attacking group. After about a quarter mile, Group A came to a hole in the ground that looked like a likely route for the Goblins. Group B continued to sweep the upper rim of the ravine for raiding parties and survivors as Walt told Group A that they needed to go into the tunnel. Lottie volunteered to scout it out and report back to Abeni with their telepathic abilities.Int. A Dugout, Near a Revine in the Varanic Countryside - Continuous
Lottie crept into the hole to find a rough dugout with on goblin keeping watch near some decaying corpses around them. Molar slowly crept behind Lottie to help out if she got into any trouble. Lottie dropped down on the unaware Goblin and mortally wounded them. Before she gave the all clear to her friends, Lottie put one of the skulls from the decaying corpses on their head like a helmet. When they got the all clear, the rest of Group A joined Lottie and Molar to find the dying Goblin. Abeni tried to stabilize the Goblin but its wounds were fatal. They were able to ask the Goblin a few questions telepathically as they were unable to speak. They found out that the chief hung out in the deepest accessable room in the cave system. The Goblin also pointed the group to a trap door that led further into the sprawling cave system. The group elected to boobytrap that door and continued down the ravine.Ext. A Ravine, Somewhere Outside of Throne - Continuous
Percy changed her appearance to resemble Gimble in a ruse to confuse the dimwitted Goblins. Lottie made it look like she had Percy as Gimble captive after an escape. So they took point, followed by the rest of the group as they travled further along. As they walked, a few members of the group noticed something unusual about patches of the canyon walls: it seemed like they could see something behind them. As not to draw attention, Rattigan sent Hickory to investigate. Hickory seemed to jump through the wall of the ravine and bit a Goblin. The poor, surprised goblin tumbled out of the ravine wall, rolled and struck a rock which broke its neck. It turned out that a simple illusion obscured parts of the ravine that led into a cave system throughout the whole area. Walt got Group B to come to their location. Walt posted Trink and the Twins to keep lookout while the rest of Cell Block E climbed through the false wall, opened a trap door and descended into the earthy coolness of the cave system.Int. A Passageway, A Cave System Somewhere Outside of Throne - Continuous
On the other side of the trap door, the Block found a set of roughly carved stone stairs that descended into the cave system. Percy (as Gimble) and Lottie took point, closely followed by Molar using cover to hide their presence, followed by the rest of the group.Int. A Chamber, A Cave System Somewhere Outside of Throne - Shortly Later
After descending the stairs and walking down a roughly hewn tunnel, the Block came to what looked like a bunk room. Three Goblins sat around a table playing cards by candle light and talking about the Raven Man. Another Goblin got up from sharpening their axe and began to walk in the direction of the Block but didn’t notice Lottie. As the Goblin walked out of the chamber and into the tunnel, Molar swiftly killed it with a single arrow. With the danger of detection now lessened and the three other Goblins paying her no attention, Lottie crept past them, around a bend and into a larger chamber within the caves.A Large Chamber, A Cave System Somewhere Outside of Throne - Continuous
Lottie found a much larger chamber with what appeared to be between 40 and 50 Goblins. There were also the ruins of some buildings, partially buried, that looked familiar to Lottie but she couldn’t place it. In front of a roaring fire, a large creature that Lottie barked orders at the Goblins. Lottie knew that the creature wasn’t a Goblin, Hobgoblin or any other Goblinoid but couldn’t place it. She decided to return to her group to send a mental image of it back to Abeni.Int. A Passageway, A Cave System Somewhere Outside of Throne - Continuous
As the Block awaited Lottie’s return, Abeni suddenly heard the frantic voice of Lottie describing what she saw. Abeni quickly realized that the large creature was a Deep Troll, forced out of the Underdark when it flooded. Abeni relayed this to the rest of the group and together they decided to use the chamber as a sort of bottleneck to limit the massive number of Goblins that would likely overwhelm them. They would first quietly take out the three Goblins in the room then set traps to further their advantage then create a sound which would draw the Goblins into their fate. Ginger transformed her appearance to resemble a Goblin and led Percy (disguised as Gimble) into the smaller chamber with the three Goblins to create some confusion.Int. A Chamber, A Cave System Somewhere Outside of Throne - Continuous
When Ginger and Percy entered the chamber, it took the three Goblins by surprise. They all thought that the boss killed Gimble and threw his body into the body pit but Percy was able to persuade the very gullible Goblins otherwise. They were still suspicious of Percy and Ginger so Percy broke character and attacked the most suspicious one, killing them quickly. Lottie attacked from the shadows above but missed her target. Now seeing three enemies suddenly in the middle of their living quarters, they proceeded to scream and attack the members of the Block. As the rest of the members of the Block rushed in, Rattigan’s rats killed the two Goblins before anyone else could react. However, there were more Goblins that heard the screams and a few came through the curved tunnel to investigate. Five more Goblins rounded the corner into the chamber to immediately get hit by Molar’s Produce Flame spell. Abeni conjured their Spiritual Weapon in the form of an evil eye in the part of the passageway where the five Goblins were now stopped by the flame in front of them. One of the Goblins got off a very lucky shot that knocked Rattigan down. Molar shot an improvised explosive arrow at the group of remaining Goblins which blew them to bits and ended the immediate threat of combat. Abeni immediately stabilized and healed Rattigan as Lottie and Molar set traps in the passage between this chamber and the larger one. Lottie created a bunch of webs to ensnare the Goblins as Molar set bear traps along the ground. The group had only about a minute before they heard the rapid footsteps of the bulk of the Goblin host. The Goblins, not being the brighest were slowed down greatly by the webs and traps that Lottie and Molar set in the passageway. They quickly ran into the flame created by Molar and also began attacking Abeni/Ekundayo’s evil eye in the passageway just beyond the chamber where the Block awaited the waves of enemies. The throngs of Goblins eventually got through the traps and into the little chamber where the Block set up their defensive position. Percy used her Wild Magic abilities to great effect on the first wave of Goblins but it also made her seem pretty drunk as a result of her casting. Rattigan, Abeni and Walt cut through more of the Goblin swarm fairly easily on their turns. Molar cast their Form of Dread in the vein of The Raven Man which scared the daylights out of the remaining Goblins. As they fled Lottie and Rattigan’s rats took out the few remaining Goblins. In a lull in the combat, the Block crept forward into the main chamber to take on what they were sure was the Deep Troll leader.A Large Chamber, A Cave System Somewhere Outside of Throne - Continuous
As the Block stealthily entered the larger chamber, Percy immediately realized that the ruined buildings were distinctly Drow in architecture. Lottie noticed that there were only eight in the room plus the Deep Troll which didn’t make sense with the number of Goblins they killed in the other room. Percy, still drunk from her two Wild Magic surges broke the Block’s element of surprise, walked up to the Troll and started yelling at it. While the Troll was distracted by Percy, Lottie climbed a wall of the chamber and spun a thin trip wire between the Troll and the Block without anyone noticing. The Troll, in Common, invited Percy to join him and someone name Pyrrhia to the fold of the Raven Man. Percy asked if this was the same as the Raven Queen but the Troll said there was no such thing as the Raven Queen, only the Raven Man. When the rest of the Block revealed themselves to the Troll, the Troll invited all of them to become pilgrims and devotees to the Raven Man. The Troll said that the Raven Man was no god but a powerful “king in the dark.” After some back and forth, the Troll lost patience and called out to Pyrrhia to help cleanse the apostates. With that, a Fire Elemental appeared in the room near the Troll and combat began in earnest. The Troll and his Goblins ran at the Block but failed to notice the trip wire; the Troll hit it first and fell forward prone on its stomach. The Goblins and the warriors of Block E went back and forth for a few moments. Molar threw their crystal flash bang. behind Pyrrhia, blinding the Troll and two of the Goblins. One of the Goblins threw their spear, hitting Lottie, knocking her to the ground and out of consciousness. Ekundayo/Abeni cast Guiding Bolt which struck as well as it could have against Pyrrhia for extra damage. The Troll, still blind, flailed around and killed one of his own Goblins but also smacked Walt for a healthy amount of damage. Not long into the battle it appeared the Troll and his supporters would lose. Pyrrhia cast a Fire Burst which took out one of her own Goblins and did minimal damage against Molar. Soon enough it was just the Troll and Pyrrhia against the entire Block. When the Troll went to swing at Walt again, he slipped and fell again breaking one of its fingers. A moment later, Percy froze Pyrrhia completely solid with a burst of Wild Magic. Rattigan ended the Troll with a surge of rats and necrotic magic. As the rats viciously bit at the Troll’s face, Rattigan slung a rock covered in black goo into the Troll’s mouth as it cried out. The goo quickly turned the Troll’s organs into a nasty, black goo which it vomited out to its death. Now out of combat, the Block watched as Pyrrhia’s body turned from a shimmering flame into that of a Tiefling. She ran to the Troll’s body and gave it a swift kick in the ribs. She yelled at it for taking her from her home. She eventually came to her senses and saw the Block looking quizzically at her kicking the Troll’s corpse. While the others were preoccupied with the Tiefling woman, Abeni ran over to Lottie and cast Healing Hands which brought her back to consciousness and recovered some of the damage delt ot her. The Tiefling woman thanked the members of the Block for rescuing her from the Troll’s control. She said that her name was Sophie, explained that she was part Tiefling and part Fire Elemental on her father’s side. She said that her entire family died in the Goblin attack against her caravan and now she was all alone in the world. Sophie worried aloud that Walt was there to take her into custody and lock her in the Fringe. Walt allayed this fear and said the Block would escort her out of the ravine so that she could continue on her way before they headed back to the Fringe.Ext. Upper Lip of the Ravine, Somewhere Outside of Throne - Shortly Later (early afternoon)
Before the Block left the larger chamber, they searched for Gimbal. Sophie pointed them to the body bit where they indeed found Gimbal’s corpse. With that business concluded, Sophie and the members of Cell Block E exited the cave system then the ravine. Sophie said that she would head south to the Spires where the rest of her people lived and that they could find her there if they needed to contact her again. Walt said he wished they could escort her there but if they deviated too far from the area it would trigger an escape attempt and all of the inmates of Block E would be killed by their collars. Sophie understood and wished them all well as she departed. After Sophie disappeared from sight, Walt put his teleporter stone on the ground once more. After a few moments a portal back to the arming room appeared and everyone in the block jumped through the portal.Int. The Arming Room, The Fringe, Throne - Continuous
The Block popped back into the familiar equipment and arming room that the left earlier that morning. Walt touched each of their collars which disabled the inmates’ magic completely. He told them that because of the toughness of the mission, they all earned 175 prison points and directed them to leave their armor and weapons in the room for next time. Walt then escorted the inmates back to their block.Int. A Hallway, The Fringe - Continuous
As Walt escorted the inmates back to Block E, an unfamiliar man spoke with Walt. The man said he was taking Rattigan and Walt was forced to let him separate from the rest of the Block. The man escorted Rattigan to a different part of the Fringe from the other inmates.Int. A Torcher Room, The Fringe - Continuous
The man knocked Rattigan out with a blow to the head. When he awoke, Rattigan found himself strapped to an examination table in the center of the room with the man and his assistant leaning over him. The woman said that her name was Talena. and commanded him in the name of the Meisters to sing some song. Rattigan had no idea what she was talking about and didn’t obey the command. The man inquired about Rattigan’s tattoos and who put them on him to which Rattigan responded that he didn’t know. The man, who said that his name was Dr. K pulled Rattigan up to a machine that he knew as a rune inscriber. Dr. K told Rattigan that he would be right as rain after the procedure. That is where the session ended for the night.
