Soryakhampai

The Independent Republic of Soryakhampai is a two-tiered nation. The ruling Yamridang class, also known as the Deathless, are undead humans who feed off of the life force of the Tangarimbu class, also known as the Mortal. According to legend, the rulers of Soryakhampai were once mortal humans, but they showed such discourtesy to Muara when she appeared at the king's wedding (disguised as a beggar as she is wont to do) that she cursed all of the nobility with her mark. Rather than accept exile, the nobles turned to Siyr for aid. The renegade goddess accepted their fealty, and the cursed nobles died and were reborn as undead. Ever since, these revenants have ruled over the terrified commoners, who for centuries have had to surrender up some of their number regularly to their lords to be devoured (for only through draining the life force of living sentients can these undead survive). Due to their pact with Siyr, the Deathless are out of favor with the other gods and worship of any deity other than Siyr is forbidden. Many Mortals contimue to worship the Korsamu in secret, however.
