Erkestr
The elven kingdom of Erkestr was once a human realm until wild elves from the north conquered it shortly after the Year of Dark Sun. The Erkestri elves now own all the land, and the native humans work it as serfs. The highly feudal Erkestri are fairly primitive compared to the surviving nations of Niru to the south and even compared to Kodesos to the west. Literacy is rare, with only a small number of scribes being able to read and write (although this is done in Neruan, rather than their own language). There are no schools in the kingdom: scribes learn to read through apprenticing with an existing scribe. The nobility occupy themselves with tournaments and hunts, rather than intellectual pursuits. Witchcraft is banned, due to superstitions of the conquering elves. Animism is practiced, however, as is worship of the Korsamu. There is also a court magician, a Neruan Invoker named Rukaad who has served the last three kings as counselor.
