Brean

The Breans are a human ethnic group notable for their large stature. According to Brean legend, they are descendants of Kealan, a human from Thovan, and Brea, a giantess. The lovers were exiled for their miscegenation and fled across the sea to Icecrown, where their descendants grew to become fierce raiders and great storytellers. Due to the dispersed nature of the Lesser Oras, the Breans there managed to maintain much of their cultural identity and religion during their subjugation by the Tisseri and have flourished in the aftermath of the elves' downfall. Their chieftains have expanded Brean territory beyond the northern Oras by conquering the coastal lowlands of the western Udhir peninsula in Thovan and establishing the kingdoms of Aedhin.   Breans are the tallest of humans and usually have dark brown hair and blue eyes.   Brean society is divided into three castes: the Rannakh (warriors and rulers), the Uiaeth (storytellers, lorekeepers), and the Faimora (commoners). Foreigners are classified as Teilakh, or outsiders. Kings are elected, and can be deposed by the Skaren, a counsel of the clan chiefs, all from the Rannakh caste. Clan chiefs are elected from the Rannakh of their clan by all members of the clan, excluding Uiaeth, who are expected to remain separate from politics so as to be unbiased in their capacity as advisors and lorekeepers. Breans remain a decentralized people, and their lands are distributed among numerous chieftains bound by an interlocking web of alliances. While the Breans are known in the Oras as raiders, they are actually as likely to war with each other as with non-Breans.    Some Breans worship the Korsamu, while others worship the land itself. The decision to worship or not is left up to the individual, but no temples exist in Brean communities. Instead, every settlement has an oak tree planted in a central location. Under the tree, the Uiaeth summon the people to partake in ancient rituals dating back to the First Age, before the Korsamu when the world was dominated by spirits.
