Overview
Daena was and still is the daughter of two scribes in a small village near the Daveldare Mountains. She is the third child and the only daughter. She was teached in a bit of writing, but a lot more in cooking and sewing, cleaning the house and tending after the chickens which the small family had. But that wasn't was she was dreaming of.
Life before walking the past
As mentioned she was the third child and only daughter. Her mother taught her sewing and cooking between her scribe-assignments, her father reading and writing. When she wasn't learning, she tended to the chickens - which occupied two hours per day and the rest she had a lot of free time. The house was tended by her brothers, so she was more or less free eighty percent of the week.
So she walked into the fields, the small forests and the old houses in proximity of the village. She found some old stuff like kettles, pots, broken tiles and some writings. One time an old book which was the dairy of a woman falling in love with her man over and over again for different reasons.
Daena was intruiged and wanted to find more. She told her parents about her findings and both shrugged. Let her do the things as long as she was attending to her duties. Which weren't so many, so Daena tried to sell eggs and her findings on the small market. She tried to gather information about the abandoned houses and the ruins. Wasn't an easy task, but during her thirteenth year of life a
Pastwalker came through her village in search of a horse. It was not an easy task because horses were needed. She talked a bit with the old man and well... she had a wish and an idea.
Decision to walk the past
The old man was one of the teachers at the
University of
Hulwar. He talked about the ruins outside the village and visited them with her, ate with her parents and talked about teaching until he got a new horse, which was after a few days.
"Mum?"
"Yes, Dae?"
"What... do you want me to be a scribe? Really really really?"
"Hm? Why are you asking? - Oh, because of the Walker?"
"Yeah... I dunno, it is so... he and was he explained and with the broken houses it made a lot of sense..."
"Do you wanna be a Pastwalker as well, Dae?" Her mum sat in front of her, her brown eyes curious.
"I... don't know. Yes, I guess." Daena nodded anxiously. Her mother grinned a bit.
"Toran, love?" she said out loud in direction of the offices.
"Yes?" came the also loud answer.
"Dae wants to become a Pastwalker!"
"Good for her! So let her be!"
Her mother looked at her with amusement. She nodded as well and Daena squealed. — Conversation between Daena and her parents
Education & Shenanigans
At her seventeenth birthday Daena got a nice gift of money from her parents, worth the fee at the local institute of learning. After five years she learned all she could in the very basics of the profession of a Pastwalker she applied for the University of Hulwar for enhanced studies.
But she didn't travel directly to the University, she wandered through the
Emerald Planes, talked with a
Vael, met a
Druid, ate some
Chocolate, met some Desertwalkers and finally reached the University accompanied by a friendly female
Dragonborn. Both were attending the test and were accepted.
They were friends over the years, even slept next to each other in their own rooms. They stayed friends during most of the beginners studies, then her friend took the path of a Relic Master, while Daena... well, she missed a lot of classes because she was venturing around the university, getting trapped in caves, nearly drowned in the close ruins at the river, poisoned herself with plants... the list is long why she ended up in the medical department. Not to mention her really, really dangerous and forbidden ventures down the old halls of the old university. Nearly killed her but she found old runes, not mentioned in the original runes. Darker ones, and ones filled with light.
She was intruiged, but got into trouble as one of her teachers found her in the forbidden halls.
Meeting Gavín
They met during one of the punish-hours, which is basically a couple of after-teaching-hours after works when you forgot your homework or did something nasty. In this case Daena was caught - again - in one of the forbidden hallways and Gavín tried to take a look at one of the Relics and kinda broke it. It was still intact, but didn't seemed to work. Not that anyone knew at this time if it was every going to work again.
They grinned at each other, two of four students in a large classroom with a grumpy elven teacher who
annoyed teached them a long forgotten dialect of an even older clan which was assimilated by one of the clans which were forming the
Dragon Sun Empire. So at least two thousand years old, next to unreadable.
After the session they gossiped about how an elf can be grumpy and met for tea and cookies the next day. They talked about the weather, studies, other students, Daena introduced him to her Dragonborn friend and after a while she hugged him. A lot longer for a platonic friendship and both didn't let go. Even after he nearly killed a guy who tried to... do non-consensual things to her. Good thing that a teacher was close at hand and because most of the teachers could wield magic, the situation was de-escalated rather quick.
Walking the past (together)
They got married three years later, right after their promotion ceremony into the rank of a Pastwalker. Gavín was maturing in the field of the
Longardir and their family, even got three Pastwalkers to help him. Daena was not so fond of the Longardir and didn't feel good about the whole situation in the south. She wanted to dig through old ruins, didn't matter which ones. The University contracted both and sent them on their quests.
During the next years both found a lot, with dirt at their hands and in the face. Found friends, sometimes partners and more. Yes, all consensual and after talking. Daena managed to built up a bit of an image. Venturing down ruins, old villages, valleys, up a mountain and nearly everytime coming back with a book, some descriptions, a relic or other stuff.
From time to time she meets with Gavín to catch up, spent time with her beloved, talk about endeavours, partners, newfound knowledge - at least to them - and what is happening at the University. Gavín managed to smith two rings which made her cry out of joy and she swore by herself that she would be the best wife Gavín deserves and the best Pastwalker Koria had seen. And damn, she knew she were good!
