Tremurium

Properties

Material Characteristics

Grey-green nodules that tremble constantly, vibrating with a subtle energy making nearby dust dance in rhythmic pulses. Once smelted the nodules melt into sedimentary, wavy layers that resembles melted colored wax or soap. Has a magical conductivity rating of 9 out of 10.

Geology & Geography

This vibrating ore is quarried deep under the ocean surface in fault networks that never cease their vibrational movement. The constant tremors imbue the metal with its distinct resonant energy, causing tools and machinery nearby to hum.

History & Usage

Discovery

Tremurium was discovered in 8333 when a massive earthquake split an oceanic ridge, exposing vibrating ore which sent miles-long curtains of bubbles to the ocean's surface. Oceanic miners quickly traced the source of the bubbles to an odd ore which continued to vibrate on the surface.

Industrial Use

Tremurium is almost exclusively used in industrial tools such as seismic picks, echo‑sensors, vibro-jackhammers and sonic translocators. It can also be found in a wide variety of commercial cleaning equipment do to its dust and dirt-lifting properties, often pairing with vacuum or other suction equipment for deep cleaning.

Refinement

Tremurium is smelted in small batches due to its continual vibration even throughout the smelting and forging process. Crucibles are sparsely filled and the molten metal is pressed into molds which are clamped with anti-resonant vices. Once cool enough to work, Tremurium hammers are used to strike during anti-pulses though this process is entirely automated now due to risk of injury.

Byproducts & Sideproducts

Tremurium powder too small to refine is captured and frozen then ground into resonant dust which is further dyed and sold as powdered ink to be used for arcane tattooing.

Reusability & Recycling

Broken Tremurium devices are sold second-hand for aeration of aquatic devices such as fish tanks, ponds and hatcheries. DIYers also purchase second-hand Tremurium for its home cleaning usage with universal harnesses available for many brands of vacuums, scrubbers and other household cleaning devices.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Tremurium is only sold wholesale by licensed wholesale vendors and purchasing requires applicable licenses to ensure the safe transport and storage of the sonorous metal.

Storage

Any anti-resonance devices such as chambers, vices or blocks are suitable for storage. Commercial solutions are available for bulk storage of Tremurium, notated by their signature neon green paint and logos.
