Spellicite
Properties
Material Characteristics
Spellicite forms as naturally round, white pebbles that contain an iridescent shimmer and are partially translucent, often containing structures inside that resemble runes. The structures inside emit a faint glow even in pitch black hinting to the latent magic embedded within the material. Has a magical conductivity rating of 10 out of 10.
Geology & Geography
Spellicite is found within the Runelash Plateau of Zolomir's Tooth where leyline surges etch natural glyphs into the surrounding rock. Its iridescent white and pink deposits resonate with ambient magic, making the region highly unstable during harvest.
History & Usage
Discovery
Spellicite was discovered around the year 1000 though the specific year is still highly debated. What were once believed to be animal droppings lit up during mass abjuration spell leading researchers to the plateaus where the first samples were harvested. These pebbles have only ever been found on Kiqueo and seem to emerge from the mountains like tears, flowing out in streams during inconsistent intervals.
Everyday use
Due to its naturally highly magical nature, Spellicite is a critical component in all mana detectors, ward stones, scribe plates and every permanently-enchanted magic object.
Refinement
Spellicite pebbles never fully melt or misshape but instead are captured in molten quartz which cures to create a bubbly-looking product that can then be sliced or layered further or polished to amplify the natural glow of the internal structures. While Spellicite can melt, it loses all of its inherent magical properties, luster and magical usefulness.
Byproducts & Sideproducts
If melted for any reason, inert Spellicite can easily be ground down into chalk which is widely used as spellsand, a widely-used component in early magical education and safety.
Reusability & Recycling
Properly refined Spellicite can be boiled in mana-infused saltwater to produce spellpowder, a substance renowned for its phosphorescence.
Distribution
Trade & Market
Spellicite is only sold on Kiqueo, usually in geology shops and curiosity bazaars by licensed spellwraiths. Counterfeit Spellicite contains no natural magical properties and can contain toxic lumination powders, making purchases from spellwraiths the only reliable source of the material.
Law & Regulation
While not illegal, Spellicite is heavily regulated on Kiqueo and can only be sold by individuals who have undergone extensive training and certification processes. These individuals, known as spellwraiths, report all sales to Coalition regulators to help track and identify counterfeiters.
