Selenic Bronze

Properties

Material Characteristics

Spotted bronze patches glint softly under natural light, their surfaces dotted with flecks that mimic distant starlight. When alloyed with other materials, Selenic Bronze creates a mottled or patchy appearance and always retains its surface flecks. Has a magical conductivity rating of 8 out of 10.

Geology & Geography

Selenic Bronze is forged by mixing Tinverium with specific copper deposits located near coasts or underwater, where silver-laden sea spray mixes with mineral veins. The natural tides infuse it with celestial illuminating qualities that are amplified in the finished bronze.

History & Usage

Discovery

Selenic Bronze was discovered in 4665 when sub-optimal copper was delivered to smiths in a bronze requisition order and the finished product appeared spotted and blotchy with an unexpected speckled glow. When asked where the copper was sourced from, merchants directed the smiths to a shipwreck that contained containers full of the material.

Everyday use

Selenic Bronze is widely used across the world to provide minor lighting effects to industrial decorative metals fashioned on or in buildings, colleges, shopping centers and can easily be purchased for household use. Many landmarks include aged Selenic Bronze as markers, railings and outposts. Observatories also make use of the material, claiming its celestial properties aid in star discovery and comet tracking.

Refinement

Selenic Bronze can be refined using identical methods to traditional bronze, though it pairs well with other luminescent metals to enhance its glowing properties. When polished with any enchanted oils the speckles often take on various different colors, sometimes shifting colors throughout the material's lifecycle.

Byproducts & Sideproducts

Selenic Bronze produces minimal slag that can be powdered and sold as midnight inks, commonly used for luminescent and reflective lettering, stenciling and glow-in-the-dark stationary.

Reusability & Recycling

Selenic Bronze deteriorates when re-smelted and is considered unusable afterward.
