Noctivane

Properties

Material Characteristics

Jet-black ore that shifts shape under pressure, flows and reforms frequently adopting new forms and shapes until processed. Has a magical conductivity rating of 7 out of 10.

Geology & Geography

This shape-shifting ore is recovered from the Starlit Basin, a meteor impact site in Ebonora where cosmic radiation mutates organic and metallic matter. The ore flows like liquid, forming new shapes overnight.

History & Usage

Discovery

Noctivane was first identified in 7622 when sculptors saw their statues grow overnight. What was originally thought to be obsidian turned out to be an expanding and contracting material that proved to be unpredictable but highly sought after.

Everyday use

Due to its natural shapeshifting properties, Noctivane is used extensively in metamorphic tools, adaptive locks and living murals and other interpretive arts.

Industrial Use

Refined Noctivane is extremely resistant to scratching, cracking and friction pressure making it ideal for vehicular brake pads, hard rail brakes, bulletproof plates and chalkboards.

Refinement

Refinement is simple and only requires heating to its melting point for seconds to freeze its morphic properties. Since this material does not need to be forged, it is often mixed with other metals to provide hardness and quick-setting properties to them.

Byproducts & Sideproducts

Quickflow resin can be extracted from raw Noctivane during its pre-melting stage which is often found in magic shops and stage performing magicians kits. The resin responds well to kinetic shaping, returning to a semi-fluid state within minutes.

Reusability & Recycling

Raw Noctivane is endlessly reusable but unpredictable in shape and shifting-frequency.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Noctivane is sold exclusively on Kiqueo and is regionally traded making purchasing difficult. Since contracts are not offered and the material is sold on a first-come, first-serve basis the price can fluctuate wildly.
