Mystralium

Properties

Material Characteristics

Sky-blue ore that is constantly wet and carries an odor of petrichor, its surface appears alive with faint crackling energy and moving marbling. Has a magical conductivity rating of 9 out of 10.

Geology & Geography

Collected from the Tempest Spires along the high-altitude peaks of Twothorn Mountain in Solusi Simoli, Mystralium condenses from storm vapors that crystallize during lightning strikes. The deposits are often shaped by the wind itself, forming cloudlike masses.

History & Usage

Discovery

Mystralium was discovered in 7344 on the jagged peaks of the Twothorn Mountains in Solusi Simoli when a traveling airship hospital made an emergency landing due to severe storms. Several pieces of the sky-like material were smuggled from a shallow cave though the names and identities of the airship crew has never been revealed.

Everyday use

Contracts with dozens of Fey states are required to export Mystralium making its supply inconsistent. When available, it is immediately mass-produced to create new storm capacitors, gale cannons and stormsunder shields.

Refinement

Mystralium requires constant bellowing throughout the refinement process, often supplemented with magic-induced wind. When mixed with other metals, it produces a constant wetting effect which is reduced as the ratio decreases.

Byproducts & Sideproducts

Wind pearls are formed from smaller samples of the material, often shaped into spheres or ovals and are used commonly in air compression systems.

Reusability & Recycling

Can be re-forged with extreme winds but with inconsistent results.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Due to the material only being harvestable in Fey country, shipments and exchange rates are not only volatile and rarely followed precisely but Fey law sometimes prohibits the transfer of the material altogether.

Law & Regulation

In accordance with Solusi Simoli law, any individuals found with illegally obtained Mystralium are required to be handed over to proper authorities. Punishments are unknown but no attempts to extradite perpetrators out of the Fey country have ever been successful. Families have on many occurrences had shipments containing parts of their loved ones returned, sometimes over the span of decades.
