Lunir
Properties
Material Characteristics
Pale blue metal with frost halo in moonlight, continually grows a thicker layer of frost if left outside at night and has a magical conductivity rating of 6 out of 10.
Geology & Geography
Most known deposits exist within the Glasten Basin, a wide crater field in eastern Rosedawn but several recent sightings have been spotted in Nodelrün. While Lunir can be harvested any time of day, night harvesting under full moon cycles yields higher concentrations of the frost-haloed ore.
Origin & Source
Lunir falls exclusively from meteorites and is not naturally occurring on Beaumont.
History & Usage
Discovery
Lunir was first excavated in 5410 after prisoners staged a riot and broke out of prison when denied visibility into a weeks-long meteor bloom over Glasten’s Landing.
Everyday use
Lunir has no common uses due to its rarity and is usually only owned by ultra-wealthy individuals, high-profile politicians and businessmen.
Cultural Significance and Usage
Lunir is often seen as a status symbol and its owners are renowned for their unique, often unconventional uses for the otherworldly metal.
Refinement
Lunir must be smelted at dusk until dawn in 28-minute heating cycles, cooling for 6 minutes between and quenched in moonwater at dawn. Refined Lunir must be stored in light‑tight coffers
Byproducts & Sideproducts
Moonwater from the quenching process produces lunar salt when cured, a critical component in scrying pools and orbs.
Reusability & Recycling
Lunir has only been reforged successfully once, following similar methods as its traditional forging process. Unfortunately the smith commissioned to undertake the process disappeared immediately after completing the quench and was never located.
Distribution
Trade & Market
Lunir is highly exotic with no consistent merchants or vendors who sell the lore. Trade is often done with private auctions, most commonly by segmenting larger samples into desirable pieces based on the bidder's needs and financial status.
