Gravitanium
Properties
Material Characteristics
Lead-heavy ore that bends other material around, distorts magnetic-based compasses and electronic tracking. Warps gravity in subtle, mesmerizing waves that causes the material to naturally form into perfect spheres over time. Has a magical conductivity rating of 7 out of 10.
Geology & Geography
Found exclusively within the Hollow Deep, a complex cave system in Mourningcrown Rise, Gravitanium distorts local gravity fields. Harvesting it is hazardous with workers often finding themselves floating or crushed by sudden shifts in gravity.
History & Usage
Discovery
Gravitanium was discovered in the year 585 when construction crews were retrofitting Savior with then-new technologies. Excavation into the nearby Mourningcrown Rise revealed spheres floating atop mine shafts that were dense and resisted gravity like powerful magnets. Gravitanium has no magnetic qualities.
Everyday use
Gravitanium must be mixed in small amounts with other metals for any residential or non-industrial applications to reduce the anti-gravity effects. It is commonly used to aid buoyancy devices such as counter‑ballast engines, float platforms and inertial anchors and is frequently used in moving carts and crates to assist with relocating heavy household objects.
Industrial Use
Gravitanium’s most recognizable industrial application is in the Levoward district of Savior, also known as the world’s first floating island. It is also a crucial component in the Pægan Magnorail system and has recently been included in new airship construction by the Blackaxel Cartel.
Refinement
Gravitanium can be smelted with any other material to reduce or eliminate bulging, though many materials warp with its inclusion due to the material’s natural tendency to form in spheres. For commercial applications, Gravitanium does not need to be refined at all and is instead built into harnesses with dozens or more orbs.
Reusability & Recycling
Gravitanium is easily recyclable for private non-commercial markets due to the reduced anti-gravitational pull smaller pieces provide. Recycling is dangerous however as warped scraps are prone to imploding if overheated.
Distribution
Trade & Market
Gravitanium is only sold in Savior and its market price is unpredictable due to both its usefulness and the risk associated with obtaining it.
