Echosilver
Properties
Material Characteristics
Silvery, faceted chunks that resonate with sound, repeating faint sounds long after they’ve been absorbed. When melted, Echosilver naturally forms into rectangular sheets that are extremely difficult to bend or break. Has a magical conductivity rating of 10 out of 10.
Geology & Geography
Echosilver is mined from the Resonant Valley between Marrowspire and Furnacehorn Peaks, a canyon system known for carrying sound over great distances. The ore “remembers” vibrations, making it a favorite among bards and artificers crafting echo-based enchantments.
History & Usage
Discovery
Echosilver was discovered in the year 6120 when a pilgrimage for Puau were stranded on a cliff between landslides for weeks. Seeking shelter, the acolytes found a nearby cavern that emitted hundreds of unique sounds including voices seeping from the walls and eventually replicated their own words.
Everyday use
Echosilver is found in all auditory recorders, memory mirrors and most security alarms. It is also frequently found in recording and movie studios and booths.
Refinement
Once smelted, Echosilver requires no additional refining. Sheets can be melted together or, if sheets are not desired, ingots can be cold hammered then annealed lightly.
Byproducts & Sideproducts
Other trace minerals trapped within the material, referred to as echo sands are removed during the smelting process and are known for being tunable to a specific note.
Reusability & Recycling
Echosilver can be endlessly melted and reformed back into sheets, ready for future applications. The metal will retain its sonorous properties indefinitely.
Distribution
Trade & Market
Echosilver is often sold by the plate and can be ordered years in-advance on many of the Dwarven marketplaces. Purchase orders in Pægor are typically ignored though the Blackaxel does provide transport and advance-purchases of the material, for a premium.
