Coalsteel
Properties
Material Characteristics
Matte black ingots that radiate faint warmth indefinitely; excellent heat-retention properties and has a magical conductivity rating of 8 out of 10.
Geology & Geography
Coalsteel is often found several feet beneath Kiqueo's topsoil layers in abundance; mountainous valleys and below sea-level crags and canyons are common sources as well. Coalsteel is relatively newly discovered but has never been successfully created on Pægor despite exhaustive attempts.
History & Usage
Discovery
Coalsteel was only discovered in 8891 as a byproduct of failed manafurnace trial that carbonized a local region of Drungarn, Kiqueo. The process was easily replicated and has since proven successful in every region of the continent, however, Pægor has never produced any yield of Coalsteel despite centuries of failed attempts.
Everyday use
Coalsteel is found in nearly all new-age warforged frames, armor, and runic housings. It is also a primary component of all modern heating elements including ranges, stoves and furnaces and can be found in many Blackaxel airships and foundries.
Refinement
Coalsteel requires suitable Kiquean topsoil compacted beneath a high‑heat blast furnace. Deep mana infusions for 12 minutes add pliability to the metal which hardens to a nearly unbreakable state with a blast of boiling oil.
Manufacturing & Products
Coalsteel is the primary component of sooted manadust, an alchemical reagent used in nu-crop products and super-rehydrators
Distribution
Trade & Market
Coalsteel is available world-wide with many local hardware stores stocking consumer-grade product on Kiqueo; Pægor often requires international ordering with export taxes paid to the Blackaxel Cartel.
