Blazeweld

Properties

Material Characteristics

Copper‑red and orange marbled material with a heat‑shedding sheen, often mistaken for magma or lava. Has a magical conductivity rating of 5 out of 10.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Despite its appearance, Blazeweld is remarkably cool to the touch and contains remarkable heat-shielding properties. If improperly forged it will retain a semi-solid state indefinitely, remaining the consistency of melted wax.

Geology & Geography

Blazeweld is sourced from geothermal vents in the Forgehollow Depths of the Furnacehorn Peaks in Khazdûl Tarokh. Blazeweld forms as copper-rich minerals that react with volcanic pressure, producing the ore’s characteristic molten sheen. It is mined only during the vent's dormant cycles, about once every 48 years.

History & Usage

Discovery

Blazeweld was discovered in the year 4004 when dwarven tunnelers noticed their mining equipment remained cool despite their close proximity to volcanic activity. Once its properties were understood Blazeweld was applied to nearly every piece of mining machinery including mining suits, vehicles and elevators.

Everyday use

Blazeweld is commonly used in the production of vent armor, forge suits and heat sinks found in most electronics. It is also commercially available in consumer-grade products such as managauntlets, computers, and cooling racks.

Refinement

Blazeweld must be smelted in a mirrored crucible between magnetic rods with symmetrical alignment. Frequent quenches in hot saltwater with mirrored tongs creates the desired flowing effect and significantly reduces finning, a unique trait of the metal that creates flat ridge-like protrusions.

Byproducts & Sideproducts

Blazeweld quench water produces warmth-stones, small pebbles of partially-refined material that is frequently used in residential heaters.

Reusability & Recycling

Blazeweld can be recycled commercially by remelting and reversing the polarity of the magnetic rods.
