Arcanite

Properties

Material Characteristics

Pale silver flakes that spark when coming in contact with organic materials such as skin or scales, plant matter and insect carapace. Has a magical conductivity rating of 10 out of 10.

Geology & Geography

Arcanite is found in the outer regions of Monokomanika near the precipices of the mountains that have not been infused with mana. While Arcanite has considerable magical conductivity once refined its raw, unrefined form is extremely volatile when in contact with raw mana.

History & Usage

Discovery

Arcanite was originally discovered in 512 by a small group of college graduates who wired Beaumont's first spell‑relay with it. Early promises of magic-infused everyday objects quickly became unrecognizable husks of over-refined metal due to Arcanite's unnatural mana-attraction properties. This process caused objects fabricated with it to act as mana magnets, eventually drying out the metal causing extreme brittleness and excessive sparking.

Everyday use

Today Arcanite can be found in nearly all wands, foci, spell relays and most notably Blastcans. Advanced refining techniques now create weaves of the material which has since eliminated all known weaknesses of the material. Arcanite is also a component of many armors and military-grade vehicle plating pieces.

Refinement

Modern refining requires smelting with 10% Tinverium in an argon-bellows furnace for 4 hours. Once the material reaches the consistency of cold syrup, it is draw into threads and isolated until cool when it can be woven onto spools.

Byproducts & Sideproducts

Arcanite that has been over-processed can be melted back down with a mixture of 8% Sundorite, 15% magnesium and 3% refined mana to create magic-resistant nano-plates used in neosteel armor plating.

Reusability & Recycling

Arcanite can only be recycled once it has been over-processed and cannot be reused for any other know purposes.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Arcanite is sold primarily on Pægor by BRN contractors with its largest contract belonging to Blastcan Industries. Arcanite is not sold to private citizens due to its volatile properties.

Law & Regulation

The Confederation collectively prohibits the sale to private civilians. Unauthorized possession of Arcanite by a private citizen leads to mandatory fines and imprisonment up to 3 years per gram.
