Fire
Universally regarded as the easiest magic in a spellster's arsenal, it is also the one most attributed to taking a spellster's life. As the second common sign of magical abilities, fire is often the go-to offensive magic for a young spellster due to many children learning the lesson about natural-made flames. When formed, it burns without fuel and can be passed through by a Nulled One.
Where the summoning of fire is seen as almost innate in most spellsters, a true sign of mastering any elemental power is in the ability to transform it beyond the crude form. When it comes to fire, being able to control the flames is an essential step.
A spellster who has begun to learn this control will be able to have the flames shift at barely a thought, changing their size and colour. The more adept among them will be capable of forcing moving forms within the flames. Often, these manifest as a favoured animal, although other figures are possible.
Full mastery is obtained when a spellster can force the flames into forms it could never do unaided. Classically, these are whips or flashy displays of wreathing, the latter being both an intimidation display (much akin to birds puffing themselves to look bigger) and a means of controlling or corralling groups. Wreathing requires a great degree of command over the flames to keep them in a distinct form. Most spellsters will do this with the use of their barrier, igniting the outer surface, especially if the being they are wreathing is themselves.
Effect
For spellsters who have fire come easily to them, so does the ability to use its heat. Whilst the vast majority of spellsters nonchalantly use this power for mundane tasks, such as expediting the drying of a favoured outfit via subtly warming the surrounding air, it has a sinister side.
The same effort it takes to heat bathwater to a preferred temperature can easily have that water boiling, and the air in a given space can become hot enough to cook a person alive.
Emotional control, self-discipline and restraint are also vital to avoid spontaneous combustion. Many a being has fallen to the emotion-driven outburst of their power and found even the smallest upset can led to a spellster’s touch being a little hotter than the average person. Leading them to leave marks on wooden tables or even melt stone.
